This may be common knowledge among this board, but my knowledge on the X-Men comics may be considered limited by many. I was just wondering what was the first appearance of the Blackbird, a.k.a. the X-Jet? I know in Uncanny X-Men #1 they flew in a jet, but it was just a random jet that Xavier piloted telepathically. What is the first appearance of the Blackbird/X-Jet as we know it today?

There was The Stratocar before the Blackbird too, and a few helicopters and Xavier private jets 'till they ran out of money...

The Blackbird came in with the 1975 team and was based on a scaled-up version of the Lockheed SR-71 'Blackbird' spy plane (modified to carry passengers and with added VTOL). I can't remember when exactly though, not without a serious re-read of the issues. As they needed to 'go into space' etc., after Phonix Saga, they rammed it with Forge and Shi'ar tech ('85 or '86?) so it became the 'Blackbird' we know now.

I have a soft spot for the old girl myself :cwink:

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that this is the original Blackbird:

I hate how in Ultimate X-Men the jet is called the X-Wing.

I hate how the term "X-Jet" has replaced the (IMO) better name, the Blackbird.

It's designed to go against Magneto's ultimate human genocide battlestation: the Death Star!
