Flash Speculation thread

And I thought I was the only 37 year old on here. Nice to not be the only older guy here.

My son it five and my only child. I guess I started a bit late with the whole fatherhood thing.

I'm 36 and I wouldnt say you started late...I started way to early...I had my first 2 when I was 13 years old my last one at 23 years old.:woot:

I hate the idea of Barry dieing again. As comic fans we can all appreciate Barry's bad-assness and his martyrdom but to the casual fan who sees this movie he's just be the Flash that dies. He's so much more and needs to be respected, to me he was the greatest of the whole line of Flash even though he was not the most powerful.

Where Wally was direction less, jobless, unable to have a life and be a superhero at once. Barry had a job, a life outside of being a superhero and he balanced both sides of his personality pretty well. To many movies have that scene where the secret and public life almost meet, with Barry he had his home life, his work life and his superhero stuff and he kept it all straight and was never overwhelmed like many heroes get.

To each his own I guess, I always thought Barry was too perfect, and that made him boring to me. Wally improves the JLA team dynamic more, with his humor, and the fact that he has something to prove to the others. But for all Barry's fans, at least he is in the films, they could have started without him like JL/JLU did.

You think that late?!? My dad was 38 when I was born. :p

Barry's death in the movie should atleast have the same type of Martyr feel.

I hear where you are coming from man. I'm for the hero-archetype though. I don't get the flawed hero, I prefer hero that are upright and heroic in every respect.

'Nuff Said.

I'm with you!!

Well it's pretty much confirmed that it will be Wally instead of Bart in the film. Not too much of a shock, but you never know what'll happen in hollywood.

Also it's looking like Wally will have a fairly big role. I wonder if he'll have powers from the begining. Instead of lightning striking in the same place twice (if that's thier origin here), I wonder if they got thier powers at the same time. I could see wally being powerless through most of the movie to give a normal person's perception of these gods, aliens, and urban legends who defend the Earth, and maybe he'll realize he has powers too toward the end. Or he could have powers from the start, but Barry feels he's too young to get involved. Either way I'm really happy they're going with two speedsters.

So they are killing Barry in the JL movie for Wally, but Goyer's script was too dark? WTF WB?

i just wish that they would have given bart a chance.

they could save Barry for the Flash movie itself.

here's something that was posted at IESB:

EXCLUSIVE: David Dobkin Takes ‘Flash’ Reins, Spills Details

Faster than the man himself, “The Flash” movie has once again changed directors – and you’ll never guess whose quick hands have grabbed the franchise.

“Wedding Crashers” and “Fred Claus” director David Dobkin revealed to MTV News that he’s signed with Warner Bros. to bring the fleet-footed super to the big screen in a solo project, taking over for Shawn Levy who has left for undisclosed reasons.

Dobkin’s film won’t be the character’s first appearance in cinemas, of course, with the Flash a major part of the upcoming “Justice League of America” film. But while fans wait for “JLA” story and casting announcements with bated breath, Dobkin can’t help but hold his – confirming that his movie will exist in the same universe as the upcoming flick as a direct spin-off.

Which made his next comment all the more revelatory: Asked which version of the Flash would be the hero of his flick, Dobkin didn’t hesitate. “Wally West,” he said. This would seem to mesh perfectly with recent rumors that “JLA” opens with Barry Allen’s funeral.

From Levy to Dobkin, “The Flash” movie has certainly courted directors primarily known for their comedic work. But that doesn’t mean they’ll treat the character like a joke, Dobkin said. Asked about his vision for the Flash, Dobkin teased us with a somewhat melancholy tagline: “You can’t outrun yourself.”

Stay tuned to MTV Movies for more information about the Flash in the coming days.

Well, the Flash should have some comedic elements. Just not too over-the-top.

I'm not sure how I should feel about this. On one hand I liked Wedding Crashers but then again the movie wasn't really directed as much as letting Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn goof around, Fred Claus looks to be horrible as well. The guy knows comedy but can he also do action?

I'm not sure about the director but I do like that they are going with Wally as the Flash instead of Barry, Wally has way cooler villains than the rest of the flashes.

yeah...the rogues were definately more forimidable during Wally's era. I think Wally's the best choice. But I'm really glad Barry is being included in the continuity as well.

Nothing against Wally, but I was really hoping they would start with Barry as the most obvious choice. If think about it, Barry would have served as a perfect choice for the franchise (if it does spawn sequels). We would have had Barry as the first Flash, and he would have been like a fatherly figure for Wally. Perhaps after going into three or two movies, it would have given a nice flow to more sequels with Wally becoming the new Flash after death of Barry, it would have been a much more emotional and multidimensional transition.

supposedly justice league is going to start with barry's death so the film would probably have wally at the funeral and telling superman he wants to join the league.

Some speculation in the Max Lord thread, What if Barry gets killed by Max instead of Ted Kord.

They should hire John Wesley Shipp (He played Barry/Flash in the tv series) and then have Reynolds play Wally.

Perhaps Barry's death brings the Heroes to solve it, during which they find Barry figured out Max's plan and was killed, bringing the Heroes to fight a bigger threat.. Brother I and the OMACs.
