This just in from X-Men Films.net...

http://xmenfilms.net/xmfnews/2006/11/25/the-future-of-the-x-franchise/

Our source at Marvel Entertainment gave us the latest update on the ongoings of the X-MEN franchise, and what the future may hold for our favorite mutants:
Recently at the company’s web-site, we posted the latest on what was going on with all our movie projects during our last web-cast, which is available for downloading at Marvel.com. At one point during the conference, It was brought up that the future of both the X-Men and Spider-Man movie franchises will depend on how talks between Marvel, The Sony Company, and Fox will go next.
Since then some talks have taken place, and I must say that at the moment, It tends to favor Spider-Man more. Sony is so confident that Spider-Man 3 will be a hit that both the studio and Marvel are in active talks about doing more movies with the current cast and film crew. Talks between Marvel and Fox have not gone so smoothly.
I am not saying that it is hopeless, but there tends to be more disagreement on what to do next with The Children of the Atom. There is really no firm deal on the table as to what to do next. At the time of X3’s release, it was widely reported “well this is the last movie” despite the last scenes that were shown. Then the Box Office results kind of made Fox change their minds, at least all of a sudden they became more open to the idea of doing an X-Men 4.
But Marvel has an alternate plan for the future of these movies. One that Fox is reluctant to take seriously. However, they may have little choice in the matter because ultimately the X-Men are Marvel’s characters and with Marvel making even bigger steps to control and have more say in the production of their movies, the news on the future of the X-Men movies (which will be revealed in good time) I’m sure will come as a pleasent surprise to both the long time X-Men readers and those who have just recently got interested in them because of the movies.

Apprently....we might have better chances of X4.

Not the way I'm reading it. It sounds to me like Fox is all geared towards X4 now that money has cropped up in buckets from X3, but Marvel is geared toward a different approach. I don't know if that different approach is another film, but it certainly sounds from the gossip that they may not be going in the 'sequel' bandwagon.

Oh no... this kinda sounds like bad news to me... with Fox taking the movie [X4] more vulgarity might come through... :(

I shiver to think what X4 would entail. I would imagine Apocalypse might be introduced as a Terminator ripoff who fights Wolverine in at least 3 logic-defying fights during the film, which would probably finish itself off with half a Sentinel falling out of the sky for no apparent reason. Oh, and someone would have to use a flaccid attempt at an iconic line someplace in it.

Well i dunno rereading it it seem Marvel has the power to enforce what they wan't to Fox .

an alternate Xmen universe reboot? :woot: :yay:

Fox should let Marvel have more creative control and then everyone wins. Fox makes their craploads of money, Marvel gets justice for their characters, and us fans get a good movie.

very excited that confirmation of the x men future is coming-it says we should be pleasantly surprised so i have hope. marvel did say they wanted more x men films but PLEASE NOT A REBOOT. we have spend so much time with these actors and have emotionally invested in them in their parts please don't throw that out the window. i want to see more rogue and iceman-together. and lets face it if they do a reboot it we be stupid romy

Marvel probably wants to focus on character spin-offs, and Fox is convinced that Wolverine is the only popular character. :o

Case closed.:woot: :yay:

i'm thinking more along the lines that fox will want to do it with their new paramount contract

I just wish it were that easy and the idiots at Fox listened to others once in a while.:cmad:

Well , i dunno , they wan't to do magneto too and there was talk of some other spin off at one time (Mystique , the Zack Penn Spin off , Emma Frost )
Now those talks were maybe coming from marvel studios

Now what makes me doubt even more , is that Fox has talked many time about the issue of another Xmen movie (because of the huge cast ,salary etc) ..i tend to believe that that's why they would have favored Spin off before seing the X3 numbers.

Imo either Marvel wan't to reboot the franchise , or they wan't to develop a Day of future past type movie ..

Yup :o : But Mavel seem to have the power :woot: :hyper:

Seriously , Nobody has the actuals facts on marvel/Fox arrangement? (Advanced dark? )

Anyways,i believe ( i'm really not sure) that the contract was ending sometimes in the next five years?

i wonder how soon a statement will come. the article suggested maybe around january IMO

Pardon my french, but why the hell would Marvel want to completely restart one of their most successful franchises? It could possibly be that Marvel wants "X4" to focus on the kids of the Xavier institute, and Fox doesn't. Who knows.

I hope word will come soon....and i hope Halle and the rest of the cast comes back. :)

i hate all this will there or will there not be an X4 - why is it so hard to tell us the facts.

Well don't excuse yourself , i'm french :o :woot: so pardon my English :o :)

Well ,you know Brocolli did it with Casino Royal and Die Another day was a success at the box offce.. imo , Marvel is simply not happy with the direction taken .. i have heard numerous thing about it well before X3.. i heard that they didn't like the way Rothman rushed production and cut the budget on X1 and X2 ..i'm not sure that they are happy with X3 either ... and especially with Fox killing major potentially marketable characters .. nothing is ever finished in a comics, of course...but do multiple death and resurection in a comics is helped by the fact the you can have month of storyline to make it "credible."...In a movie i'm less sure about that , and even more the way they executed some of their ideas ..imo it would be ludicrous for those characters to come back .(but i'm sure that Fox would not hesitate..)

For all thoses reason, i think not only that they think about a reboot but that it is the thing to do.

ps:About the kids of the Xavier institute movie ,i heard it was the Penn Spin off?

It sounds to me that it might be that Marvel wants to be more creatively involved, may want to be included in the post production more, and this might mean that Fox doesn't get to include the huge money makers (ie: Hugh, Halle, McKellen) because Marvel may want to introduce different characters and move away from the whole movie star focused stories. That could be one way of thinking about it, although I may just be grasping for straws.

yup..

Now without wanting to give anyone false hopes , i find interesting that Allocine the most famous(professionnal ) movie site site has just updated ,last week ,their site with an Xmen 4 forum..

they rarely do that , if there is not some moves on a production..

Perhaps it is the fact that FOX simply does not want to continue to make these films on such a grand scale, and desires to, as it seems like they are doing, make smaller scale films that don't cost as much to make, do not have a cast of thousands, and gives them the opportunity to focus on smaller more intimate stories. By making the smaller scale films, they could conceivably make more films in a shorter period of time. If Wolverine turns out well, and the Magneto movie, then the sky would be the limit as far as future solo projects. I mean, all thoughts of Rothman et al being the anti-christs, it must have been a nightmare to pull those films together with such huge casts, special FX and the like.

I'd like to see an X4 and also the X-Kids spinoff. I just don't want X4 to be like Batman Begins (although THAT was necessary) cause I've grown to accept the actors as the characters.
