Fox promises Wolverine spin-off for 2007

How is this rushed if this isn't going to be filmed until next year? Hugh has already said there are two drafts and Benioff is working on a third. This script has been in the process of being written since the beginning of 2005. I don't see how it's rushed.

Ridiculous if this is true - yet another RUSH JOB Fox is attempting. I thought they would learn their lesson by now with rushing their films and getting a sub-par result with the last two films FF and X3. You could go back further and say DD and Elektra as well.

Fox doesn't want to compete with Nolan's Batman sequel.

And i dont blame them, for one it will be a better movie, and two, it will probably make more at the B.O because more people have had the chance to see BB now and see how great it it.

Well for the record I hated BB and X3 has made more domestic and internationally than BB. And when is BB2 supposed to come out? I don't think they even have a script for that one yet!

Fox doesn't care about quality, remember?

Update from AICN:

UPDATED!!! Wolvie going into a berserker rage next year? Maybe not...
Hey fellas! Quint here again. Got an email from Hollywood Reporter wanting to clarify their original story. Apparently some wires got crossed and an earlier, incorrect version of the report went up saying that Fox was gunning for a 2007 release on the Wolvie movie when in fact that emphasis wasn't in place at Cine Expo. It's certainly in the works, but the rush for a 2007 release date might not be set in stone. Whew... that's just good news for us fans as it gives the production team time to refine a quality script. At least, that's the hope, yeah?

In what way are they rushing? The script is done. If filming doesnt start until next year how is that rushing the film?

After reading whats said above me, thats why I never get my panties in a bunch to early about the stuff I read because nothing is set in stone

I don't get it, how can THR get a story like that wrong? Unless they totally messed up, how could they write something like "next year" if Fox never mentioned it. This all sounds fishy, maybe they're trying to cover themselves.

For the record, BB was a better film critically than X3 was. Your opinion means nothing on a global scale. Also, BB was a re-start and a fifth film in a franchise everybody thought was dead, so it did very well considering. X3 should do more, it's a well established franchise.

Yes, they've had a script outline since BB wrapped - Chris Nolan and David Goyer wrote a treatment that has already been turned into WB and approved. About 6 months ago, Jonah Nolan (Chris Nolan's brother who wrote Memento) was hired to flesh-out the screenplay with both Goyer and Chris. Rumored villains are Joker, Black Mask, and Boss Maroni. Harvey Dent will also be coming to town and The Penguin might also make a cameo.

June 2008 is the target date. Filming to commence this winter.

Yep - called Prince Caspian. I think there are a bunch of Narnia books, sort of like Harry Potter. So expect a lot of these movies. And about the release date:

>>Prince Caspian Pushed Back to Summer 2008
According to The Hollywood Reporter The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian has been bumped from the Christmas 2007 release slot and moved to summer 2008.

There are seven Narnia books (I have read them all), just like Harry Potter, except Narnia was made 56 years ago by C.S. Lewis who was best friends with J.R.R. Tolkien.

I don't know how to take this yet, but I am more optimistic than most of you. FOX sucks when your looking at respect given to film quality- I'm not even going to argue with that. With a WOLVERINE flick though, we have a few benefits already in our favor:

1) This film has been looked into since X2 (in fact, I remember hearing about it right before X2's release if I'm not mistaken... it has been a while though). Remember when we were supposed to get this film before X3? Atleast those involved have been thinking about it and have been trying to put a good story together. David Benioff's been working on the script for a while, so I think we're in good shape looking at story.

2) No special effects necessary. When people know what film they are making, regardless of special effects (look at War of the Worlds, how last minute that was), they can make it. This film doesn't need a lot of special effects aside from claws and healing, which they've already done.

3) ...actually... those are the only factors I can think of that are in our favor. Plus there will be a new x-director probably meaning FOX is going to buckle down on them and not give them any creative freedom. It's cool that we're getting the film next year, but wow, from a quality stand point all I can think of is "man, this sucks."

I'm afraid now that next summer we'll get an announcement of an '08 X4 release... give it a break now, handling this franchise like this is just dumb..

Yeah that was weird. I always assumed anyways they'd start filming in 2007 for a 2008 release. I'll bet Ratner got this job which I'm not opposed to. The script has had more time, and he has experience with the character now, and it's not nearly as rushed even if it was released in 07.

I bet there was still an announcement, but it said that they would begin shooting the film next year, not release it, and that THR just fudged up there story a bit.

Well if you read the latest article regarding Jimmy Marsden, he sounds interested in another x-movie. so... who knows...if he does come back, most likely Famke will. It all depends, I guess.

i hope they come back in some form for an X4. jean is my absolute fav character and scott is one of my other favorites.

i really want another xmen movie but ive always liked the older characters more so i can imagine, if there is an X4 and if scott and jean dont come back, it def wont be one of my favorites...:(

It's gonna get interesting with:

May 2008 Iron Man
June 2008 Batman (guess)
Narnia???
Die Hard 4???
Indiana Jones???
Wolverine???

I think Narnia and Indy could be Holiday releases.
Didn't LucasFilm confirm May for Indy 4?

Well, with the exception of a certain sequel whose-name-I-won't-dare-utter.
Well, B&R made more money than Constantine, V for Vendetta, Daredevil, all Blades, Hellboy. But Batman was already well known and B&R fourth film in the series, so.

Like I said previously, Hugh is filming one movie in October and another in February, so he probably won't be available to film this until at least summer 2007, maybe later - nothing about it is "rushed" - they are on the third draft and by the time Hugh finishes filming these two movies they will probably have a director and perhaps start pre-production.

Wow thanks for the news but that sucks :down...2007!?!?...How will they fit in Pre-production,production, and post-production in that time span...the film will be beyond rush...Im hoping 2008

Because people don't listen to me:

The movie is not coming out in 2007.

I remember Variety was still saying Hugh had a cameo in Superman Returns as recently as April, and that was totally wrong. I don't think the trades are particularly good with their fact-checking.

Everyone's crying like the sky is falling over this today...glad I was at the Yankee game.

It was just an announcement that the movie was being made.
People don´t want to listen...they just want to bash the character AND the movie even before everything is confirmed.
We can´t escape the Wolverine bashers anywhere... :(

But when all is said and done, we still outnumber them.
