FOX's The Exorcist

So how about that [blackout]Exorcist III[/blackout] shot?

It made me chuckle. I get what they were going for but it just looked goofy.

I've gotta tip my hat to the showrunners for having the exorcism end [BLACKOUT]with Marcus shooting Andy in the head[/BLACKOUT]. Rare that an exorcism ends that way in a film or show. I'm not sure what to make of Marcus's last scene. Makes me wonder if some of the demon somehow survived inside Tomas or if Marcus was just realizing that the possessed exorcist is going after Tomas. Also, I think Marcus is falling in love with Tomas. Not surprised. They've been in the trenches together and it was bound to happen.

I loved this finale.

I love the Exorcist III shot, it was almost perfect right down to the sound mix. The gun shot to Andy's head during the exorcism was very similar to the Exorcist III ending as well. Did I mention how much I love the Exorcist III? :woot:

I hope this gets renewed, but if it doesn't it sounds like the show runners are free to shop it to amazon or hulu according to a recent interview.

I just discovered that Ben Daniels' partner irl is the actor who played Kevan Lannister and I'm shook.

The Exorcist TV show creator fears Disney/Fox deal could end the series

Jeremy Slater, creator of The Exorcist television series, fears his show may not fare well now that it's owned by Disney. In a tweet, Slater said,

"This Fox/Disney merger is awful for a number of reasons, and I can’t imagine it means good things for the future of our show."

He reiterated this worry during an interview with Entertainment Weekly after The Exorcist's season two finale aired, and went into the possibility of taking the show to a different network or streaming service if things fall apart for it on Fox:

"I think this Fox-Disney deal… it doesn’t mean great things for 20th Century Fox as a studio and Fox as a network, but you also never know. Now, we’re not necessarily on brand for Disney, but they’re also going to need a lot of content to fill their streaming platforms and networks, so I don’t know. I think there’s a lot of options.

We definitely have passionate fans at the network and at the studio — we just don’t have the audience — and so I don’t know whether the option is to roll the dice and just keep producing the show because it’s something they believe in, or maybe taking our very loyal fan base that would probably follow us anywhere we go. I think that would be hopefully an attractive prospect if you’re a streaming service or something like that that wants to be competitive in the horror genre. I feel that we’ve made the best horror show on TV for two years running and the fans that have discovered us will follow us. I remain optimistic."

Slater has ideas on how the stories of its characters will continue on in a third season, so I hope he will get a chance to tell those stories.

Slater told EW,

"Mouse and Tomas went off on their own to take the battle to the Vatican by using Tomas’ sensitivity powers to sniff out the corruption in the Vatican, and months later Marcus got a message from God telling him Tomas is in trouble, so something bad has happened along the way, and you don’t know whether that’s Bennett or something else, and that’s going to be the big driving question going into the season. What happened to Mouse and Tomas?

I also think, if we’re lucky enough to get a season 3, this year we talked about how we wanted to bring in elements from other cultures and other faiths and start exploring other ways that other religions out there may be fighting the same battle. They may have other methodologies and other names for evil, but they’re all kind of fighting the same thing."

I'm not sure why he thinks Disney wouldn't be in favor of The Exorcist. It's not like Disney hasn't made dark stuff before.

Disney's dark experimental phase in the late seventies and into the eighties was one of my favorite Disney periods. Plus Disney partnered with Netflix to make mature themed Marvel shows. The Punisher isn't exactly a Disney friendly character.

Sometimss when businesses buy other businesses they shake up stuff, fire people, and kill projects or alter previous plans. Disney did it when they bought Lucasfilm. They canceled the video games and upcoming projects that were being developed, got rid of people, and they canceled Star Wars Clone Wars.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Disney goes through Fox's tv lineup and starts cleaning house of anything that isn't pulling it's weight.

Are we sure this was performing so badly it would be dropped? :(

That's encouraging, maybe it will be spared. :)

Cancelled

Not hugely surprising, but still painful.

Part of me feels like it might have been better for it to have been just one season, considering how close-ended that season was, rather than leave us with a semi-cliffhanger.

NOOOooooo! I’m going to sound like every other person, but please Netflix, save this!

Damnit. Not a good week for me. First The Expanse and now this. :(

I thought they had announced the cancellation of this a while ago. :(

Sad but not surprised it is cancelled.

This show felt better suited to FX than Fox. I think they could of embraced the darker themes and horror elements more if it was on Fox basic cable sister station.

Wow....have to say i am disappointed. I thought the 2nd season was really good and just when things were getting interesting (Father Bennet getting possessed), they cancelled it.

netflix should take over this series.
