Frank Darabont's Mob City

It's a mini series, so hey. So far Bernthal is the standout but Pegg has some decent lines.

And now he's dead.

I'm not sure. IMDB has it listed as a TV series, not a mini series. Wikipedia only shows 6 episodes due to air. 2 each Wed for the next 3 weeks. So there's only 2 weeks left but it's technically 6 one hour episodes.

Anyway, I thought it was ok. And Colleen Camp.....boy, the years have not been kind at all. :(

Simon Pegg's American voice was weird. Not bad weird, just never imagined that voice coming out of him.

The episodes were alright, nothing special though

I really..really like this. Watched it on the DVR. I want to say I love it, but it may very well be the 'look' I love of the show.

I wonder if ratings will be good?

Season 1 of Walking Dead had 6 episodes too

Oh crap, she's the lady cop was DIE HARD 3.

Was she the lady who asked for the cheese at the table? :o and when she got her cheese, all she did was cry? :o I mean, ****, the waiter literally murdered to get her some cheese. C'mon.

Yeah and she had been around a lot longer than Die Hard 3. He famous roles were in the Police Academy movies and the movie adaption of Clue. She used to be incredibly stunning.

I think Darabont has said that it was filmed in the same manner as a series, as in done in an hour long format, but TNT decided to air it in two hour increments instead of one, but the production was still treated as a 'season one' with a season two option if it ends up doing well.

My guess for why they did it was to market in a sort of 'special way', since they emphasized it being an 'epic three-week event' as opposed to marketing it like a regular series..

I liked it, but I wonder if it's somewhat slow burn approach scared off viewers in the second half. Makes me think TNT is just trying to burn this off. I hope it does well.

I love the gangster speak they all do in these period gangster genre stuff. They never give a straight answer its always some weird line :funny:

So far its better than Gangster Squad.

It's good. I'll be tuning in.

But it's no Boardwalk Empire.

And it's Luciano who was credited in organizing organized crime while Lansky was his Jewish right hand man as the Great Mafia Brain.

I'm surprised, the hype seemed pretty strong for this one.

I think everyone is kind of making the numbers out to be worse than they are. TNT is still a cable net, so 2 million isn't that bad. Being on TNT and not being a boringly straightforward procedural was kind of a strike against it ever doing those big numbers to begin with. I think summer might have been a better place for it.

It could be a heavy DVRed show as well. That's what I did. I haven't watched yet. So TNT could see some value if it has a high DVR number, people still have to subscribe to TNT.

The movie that aired before it had more viewers and more adults 18-49. So that's not good. See how it does in week two. TNT has billed it as event/mini-series and if the ratings did well enough it would greenlight a bigger second season order.

That didn't work out for USA's Political Animals mini-series, it too had disappointing numbers.

I felt the same way, lol. It was like someone else was using his skin. :p

I was wondering if that was the same Lansky as was in Boardwalk Empire but I was confused because this took place in LA not New York.

Yup same Meyer Lansky.

The beginning minutes of Mob City was in NY 1925 or 1922. It introduced a young Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky.

I mean, how many Meyers could there be? :p It's just that BE never mentioned Meyer doing anything in LA so I wasn't sure if it was the same dude. :)

Luciano and Meyer Lansky sent Bugsy Siegel to L.A. to expand their syndicate taking over L.A. Mob boss Jack Dragna.

In the beginning of the show. Meyer Lansky was in NYC not in L.A. when he and Bugsy were shooting up the car in the 1920s.

Then it flash forward to 1947 in L.A.

Does this mean Bugsy is going to show up on Boardwalk Empire some time soon? :)

Yeah Bugsy Siegel is on Boardwalk Empire. season 3

He was the kid that was hanging out with Luciano and Lansky.

He was also the kid that tried to assassinate Gip Rosetti in season 3
