Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns Animated

Tim Curry for the Joker!

The original choice in BTAS deserves a crack of the whip and his coughing may come in handy for an older version of the character

I would agree but for the fact that Curry is way too fat to play Joker now.

His weight wouldn't matter for an animated movie.

Stallone for Batman, Curry too fat for Joker...

People know this is animated, right?

The Two-Face stuff needs to go. On its own, I love those scenes; GREAT ideas, and a great reinterpretation of the character. And it fits... in a four issue comic. But a film needs to work on its own, and it needs to have three strong acts.
No.

Animated, yes, of course. Not paying attention obviously.

Boy, do I feel stupid.

Wow great first impressions here:cwink:

...Kevin Michael Richardson and John Dimaggio being two great Joker voices made by two rather large guys...

Tim Curry is as stocky as Jack Nicholson was in Batman '89 anyway or even a certain Mark Hamill today:cwink:

Get the guy that did Bat's voice in BTAS's Legends of the Dark Knight episode's DKR segment.

I'd rather have Kevin Conroy gruff up his ole vocals than Michael Ironside. Ironside is great but a little too cheese for me.

I have feeling Kevin Conroy Isn't doing the Dark Knight Returns. With him doing Justice League:Doom I have feeling they will do some stunt casting for TDKR.Wth exception of
Bruce Greenwood I haven't liked the non COnroy Batman voices In DC ANimated films.

Their recent track record Is after COnroy Is used they bring some else to do a Voice for Batman. After COnroy did Superman/Batman:Public enemies they brought In William baldwin for Justice League:Crisis on Two Earth's and Greenwood for Batman:Under the Red Hood. Then after Superman/Batman:Apocalypse they brought In Ben Mckenize for Batman Year One.

On April 15th, 2011, it was reported that the Warner Bros. Animation studio was in the early stage of developing Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns for an animated feature.

On July 22nd, 2011, at the San Diego Comic Con, producer Bruce Timm officially confirmed that Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns is being adapted into two animated movies.
"It's going to be very, very faithful to the comic," Bruce Timm reassured the audience.

In November 2010, Frank Miller was interviewed by Christopher Irving and Frank Miller told him, "'I'm talking to animators, and I would rather do it animated,' Frank reveals when I bring a hypothetical Dark Knight Returns movie up."

In 1998 Bruce Timm loosely adapted a segment of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns in the "Legends of the Dark Knight" episode of Batman: The Animated Series, which Frank Miller enjoyed.

Tasha Robinson: "Were you happy with the episode of Batman: The Animated Series that used your Dark Knight character designs?"

Frank Miller: "Oh, that was wonderful! [Laughs.] It was hilarious, yeah. Bruce Timm called me up, the animator, and asked if it was okay if he did a little bit of Dark Knight in the show. And I said, 'Absolutely, you're Bruce Timm!' He said, 'Do you want to see a script?' I said, 'No, you're Bruce Timm! I just want a videotape.' The videotape came, and I watched it about three times in a row, laughing out loud. It's spot-on. He even got my Robin right."

On October 11th, 2010, at the New York Comic Con, Bruce Timm said, "It's funny because if you compare the two it's almost hard to imagine that both of those came out of the same mind. The Dark Knight Returns is so big and operatic and Batman: Year One is so personal and small scale. It's almost like if The Dark Knight Returns is Led Zeppelin then Batman: Year One is like Chet Baker or something. There's that big of a difference between them."

On October 15th, 2011, at the New York Comic Con, Bruce Timm said, "(Frank Miller's) The Dark Knight's been announced but I'm not really allowed to talk about it."

DVDsnapshot: "Is it exciting to do it?"

Bruce Timm: "Oh, yes. Again, it's a challenge. It's really hard. It's really hard."

DVDsnapshot: "It's 77 minutes?"

Bruce Timm: "No. It's two movies. Part One and Part Two. Yeah, it was way too big to do it in one movie. I think Part One comes out just about a year from now (this interview took place on October 15th, 2011, at the New York Comic Con). I think Fall of next year (Fall 2012). Maybe a little bit sooner."

DVDsnapshot: "Speaking of the idiosyncratic pencils of Frank Miller in that book, how are you adapting to that?"

Bruce Timm: "With great difficulty. It's just again really really tough because with Dark Knight, it's a little bit similar situation to when we did (Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's) All-Star Superman, because Batman looks different in every single panel. Quitely apologized to me after we did the (All-Star Superman) movie, he said 'I'm sorry Superman looks different in every shot,' and it's like 'I know,' so it was really hard to find one concrete version of him for animation. It's a very similar situation for Frank Miller's Dark Knight. It's all over the place in that book. Literally at the beginning of the book he literally looks completely different than he does by the end of the book. By the end of the book I think Frank was doing most of the inks himself, he was not relying so much on (inker) Klaus Janson, so that changed the look even more. So it's really hard. It's funny when you go back and look at the comic now, it almost doesn't look like Frank Miller art because we're so use to what he's style became with Sin City and onward."

World's Finest Online: "As we wrap this up, care to tell us where we’ll be seeing you...and why we should all pick up Batman: Year One?"

Christopher Drake (music composer): "Another epic DCU movie that is one of those 'Holy Grail' titles. It's going to be pretty amazing, and unlike any DC score I've done in the past..Its gonna be huge.
Hmm... why should you pick up Batman: Year One? Because... its F'N Frank Miller's Batman: Year One! As an animated movie! What else do you need?"

I'm very happy they are making Batman: The Dark Knight Returns as two-movies, thus allowing it to be very faithful to the source material, instead of cutting out so much of the story in order to try to squeeze it all down into just the 75 minutes time requirement for each film.

As Batman: Year One was released in October last year, Bruce Timm said the first Batman: The Dark Knight Returns movie is releasing in the Fall this year, so as with Batman: Year One, the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns voice cast will likely be announced in April along with two screenshots released from the movie. Superman vs. The Elite will likely be released in June with a Sneak Peek: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns preview on the Blu-ray and DVD special edition. The official Batman: The Dark Knight Returns website will likely be launched in July with music from the score by Christopher Drake. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns: Part One will likely be premiering at the San Diego Comic Con in July.

If it's two parts then that assures me they'll have the Two-Face stuff, which is great because without it the project wouldn't be whole.

I prefer the first half of the book to the second. I hate how Superman is potrayed in this book.

I'm still on the fence with this being a two-parter. I think i'll just try my best waiting for the Double-Blu-ray collection, because paying 40$ for 120 minutes (+the extras) is too much.

They had a panel for Superman vs. The Elite at Wondercon, and they showed a trailer for this there. The general consensus is that this looks jaw dropping.

Dammit I should have gone to this!! :cmad:

No word on upcoming DVD's or even the voice actors for this feature at the panel?
