Animation Futurama Thread

Brilliant move, don't they know how many voices Billy West provides? Surprised Matt would even go forward without the cast. The movies were crappy anyways so I won't be tuning in.

Can't believe they would do that. What BS. Like you said, they should just cancel the show now before it even begins.

How incredibly lame.

I'll watch the first episode just to satisfy my curiosity, but I agree they absolutely shouldn't go forward with this.

I think the movies were hurt by having to write something that worked as a movie, but could be chopped up into episodes. Well, Beast with a Billion Backs was really bad, but no one's perfect.

As for the rumor, I think it's a joke to get people talking about it again.

we could not meet their salary demands

You pay them whatever the **** they ask for Fox.

Also. No wonder they did this... they have to make it as ****** as the recent Simpsons seasons.

I don't believe it! I'll believe it when Fry and Leela start sounding like Patrick Warburton and Cree Summer!

If they did recast them, I imagine the writers would come up with some sort of "we're in an alternate universe where everything is the exact same, except we sound really different" excuse.

But it still wouldn't excuse it... damn Fox.

Hey, they were bound to **** it up somehow. It coming back was too good to be true in the first place.

To replace one voice actor is one thing, but to replace them all? That's stupid. Then what's the point of bringing back the show then?

They're recasting!?! :facepalm This has to be grandstanding by Fox to get them to reduce their demands.

On the bright side there could be a ton of jokes involving the characters being shocked at their drastically different voices...

Which probably just showed them how much they need to just give the actors whatever they want.

I don't know about that. Groening and his crew has always been fiercely loyal to their talent. I'm not sure they will stick around if Fox tries to pull **** like this.

It's not like Futurama has this huge cast. There's just Billy West, Katey Segal, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Tress McNeille, Phil LaMarr, and Lauren Tom. I'm pretty sure those 7 actors make up every main, supporting, and background character on Futurama that isn't a celebrity's head in a jar. The only exceptions that come to mind are John Goodman as Robot Santa (even then, I think DiMaggio took over that role) and Sarah Silverman as Fry's ex Michelle (who I'm surprised I can even remember).

Pay them, FOX!

You know, this is gonna make that panel at Comic-Con a tad awkward...

"Futurama: Life or Death?! BE A PART OF SCI-FI HISTORY! Join Executive Producers Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, and stars Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio and Maurice LaMarche for high-stakes thrills as a top-ranking Fox executive decides live, on stage, whether Futurama will make yet another triumphant return, or whether it is gone forever! The very fate of Futurama hangs in the balance! Paramedics will be standing by in case the intense excitement causes any panelists to collapse. Raucous celebration or abject despair to follow the news."

Obviously, the whole "life or death" thing is a joke, since the show has officially been brought back. And then there's the fact that three of the cast members said to be among those being replaced are scheduled to be on the panel. Certainly, salary negotiations could have fallen apart since the panel was first set up, but it makes you wonder… One thing's for certain, it will make the Futurama Comic-Con panel even more of a big deal. If the original cast is there, and this is an elaborate hoax, then fans will no doubt be very relieved. If they're not there, and they are indeed being recast, then it's not hard to imagine plenty of not-so-happy fan questions on the subject, to say the least.
Certainly has the potential for a fan boy riot.

I wonder how long until one nerd asks, "So... Billy, Katey, John, Maurice... what's it like to be thrown under the bus?"

Well I can't wait for ComiCon now. If they are indeed recasted, **** the new show. I can just watch the show that I love anyways on dvd. I will not settle for crap like this.

This is one of the worst ideas I´ve ever seen come from Fox, the voices are such an integral part of the show that changing them would ruin it. I could forgive them if one of the actors (assuming it's not Billy West) was being to greedy and they replaced him but to try and recast all the roles is just plain stupid.

Cartoon characters are the one staple of entertainment who recasting is often a massive blow...the voice is how you recognize them, and their delivery has been fine tuned.
