FXX's Simpsons World

I haven't watched enough to do a real articulate analysis, but my blanket assumption would pretty much be:

1990s - Solid gold throughout
2000s - Hit or miss, slowly gravitating towards just "Miss"
The start of this decade, and on - Why are you still here?

I still watch and I'd say:
Seasons 2-12 (90s-very early 2000s): Great
Seasons 13-21 (early 2000s to early 2010s) Maybe five good episodes per season.
Seasons 22-25 (last four years) Showing signs of improvement.

been watching the Simpsons nonstop since getting home from work

noting can top 90s Simpsons

Lucky you. We don't have the channel here. But I love the Treehouse of Horror episodes :)

"Classic Simpsons" would be season 3 through season 8 for me.

I could never really choose a favorite season, but having recently done my own marathon with my DVD sets...I honestly think season 8 is the cream of amazing crop. For me, it's a wonderfully perfect mix of the absurd without losing sight of the more human side of the show and it's characters. Every single episode gives me gut busting laughs. I mean, gut busters are the norm for early Simpsons, but something about Season 8 just makes it a pinch funnier than all the others. I could watch Season 8 non-stop.

I I HAD to rank my top 5 seasons:
8
7
6
4
5

How long have you been watching it on FXX? Heard it's running the show 24/7.

I have to say I think season 2 and 8 were great. Granted, Season 8 started showing some of the signs later seasons would have (i.e. problems), but it was so consistently funny I didn't care. Between You Only Move Twice (Hank Scorpio's episode) and Homer's Enemy (Frank Grimes' episode) it's probably my favorite season.

I think Season 2 may be the best in some ways, though the show hadn't quite gotten into its grove, and there were some funny, but not great episodes. It's really where the show started to get great.

You're right. Two classic episodes.

Editing post...

I know a lot of people hate Homer's Enemy for it being "too dark' but that's why I love that episode.

I can't tell you how many times I have watched that episode.

"What's this? Extremely High Voltage. Well, I don't need safety gloves, because I'm Homer Simp–".

Barney: And I say England's greatest Prime Minister was Lord Palmerston!
Wade Boggs: Pitt the Elder!!
Barney: Lord Palmerston!!!
Wade Boggs: Pitt the Elder!!!! [pokes Barney]
Barney: Okay, you asked for it, bud! [punches him out]
Moe: Yeah, that's showing him, Barney! [scoffing] Pitt the Elder...
Barney: Lord Palmerston!!!! [punches Moe]

Officer Eddie: (reading Steve Sax’s license) Well well, Steve Sax, from New York City.

Officer Lou: I heard some guy got killed in New York City and they never solved the case. But you wouldn’t know anything about that now, would you, Steve?

Steve Sax: But there are hundreds of unsolved murders in New York City.

Officer Lou: You don’t know when to keep your mouth shut, do you, Saxy Boy?

I'd argue Season 8 has WAAAAAY more classic episodes than just 2.

-You Only Move Twice
-A Millhouse Divided
-Hurricane Neddy
-The Mysterious Voyage of Homer (Probably, arguably, maybe my favorite episode)
-The Springfield Files (Probably, maybe, arguably my favorite episode)
-Mountain of Madness
-The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show
-Homers Phobia
-Homers Enemy

All classic. Hell, there isn't a dud in the group imo. I don't really think there is a true outright dud in seasons 2-10 myself, but that's the thing about Simpsons fans....the opinions vary GREATLY.

It's maybe the best season.

I think Season 9 still had some solid episodes, but the quality of the show definitely went downhill in 10. When You Dish Upon a Star, and D'oh In the Wind were just subpar, among others.

I like both of those episodes. Season 11 is where I personally start to feel a decline. 11 is wildly uneven and 12 picks up greatly imo and it remains strong (not amazing, but strong) until Season 16. Season 16 onward is where I just don't care.

With me though, I became a Simpsons fan later in life. I didn't grow up with it and was introduced to it properly in high school, so my perception of the show is probably different than a person who has followed it weekly for two decades.

lol "Lisa's First Word". 4 years of waiting for Maggie to speak, 22 years of no one caring about it anymore.

watching all these early episodes makes me miss Phil Hartman even more :csad:
