G.I Joe 2 moved to March 2013 - film conversion to 3D

I've always thought that Channing Tatum is not exactly dead in the movie, just captured. In he fight they show between Snake Eyes/Jinx and the ninjas in the trailers, I've noticed what looks to be some type of stretcher they are carrying down and protecting, which makes me believe they are possibly rescuing Duke from a COBRA lab/base.

Everyone simply jumped the gun on killed based on his lack of presence in the trailer and the ambush scene.

Frankly, I was confused as to why everyone immediately went to the notion that he was killed off. Hardly anyone brought up the possibility he was maybe captured...

21 jump street was a major hit that know one saw comming! thats how and why.so tatum is getting more screen time in this even though i think jonah hill was the main reason for jumpstreets success. lets see how much money magic mike makes

I somehow doubt that Tatum would cause Paramount to delay the movie for 9 months so they can retool. I know he's getting some better press but it's nothing gigantic that would warrant such a delay.

There has to be something else.

I'll be floored if this delay was to add Tatum back into the movie. I can't comprehend how a studio would make a decision like that a month before their movie is supposed to come out; there's just no way, man.

I imagine (and hope) that these apparent "reshoots" are just to spice up the lame 3D effects, so instead of Roadblock pointing his big ass gun to the side he'll point it at the screen for INTENSE 3D ACTION!!! Reshooting stuff like that is considerably smaller; putting a character back in the movie that was otherwise absent from the script would be insanely expensive and require intense reshoots.

This whole thing just makes me facepalm.

Most likely they feel like they probably have a sinker and want to try and salvage it. And if they think throwing in more Tatum will help, I'll wait and see, but it's not looking good.

I think Marlon Wagons said his character was dead, so that may have added more to the speculation.

I think its mostly the international 3D box office but since they are reshooting they might be looking into adding more scenes with Duke or not killing him off if thats what happens. Which Im pretty sure does.

Someone who'd recently seen the new G.I. JOE picture at a test screening told me last night about some interesting and suspicious questions on their post-screening questionnaire thingie. Edited and paraphrased...

"I cant help but kinda call ******** on this 3D shenanigan..."

"How did you feel about him (Tatum) in the film?" and "Do you feel there should have been more of him...?"

If hes alive at the end I dont think they would ask that question. If the report is true, his role has definitely something to do with what they are planning on changing.

Ahaha, my friend who works at a local Toys-R-US just informed me that they are being asked to discount all the GI Joe 2 figuries/and have them off the self by mid June.

It would take a hell of a lot more than reshooting scenes to make Tatum the lead lol. Something like that would require almost a page one rewrite and extensive reshoots.

Not that I'm saying you're necessarily wrong about Tatum, but I highly doubt that's the reason. If it is...

Oh, don't get me wrong; I liked the movie. But it didn't make money because no one outside of MMA fans knows who Gina Carano is, and the rest of the actors weren't a draw either.

The Gi Joe toyline will suffer big time. They now have movie figures on the self with no movie support. The line may be dead after this.

Apparently, Hasbro is releasing the currently stocked GI Joe 2 merchandise, but the remaining shipments and products will be held until 2013. So, though the initial merchandise might take a hit, the rest will just sit in a warehouse along with the Arc of the Covenant for a year.

Yep, you are right! It says Channing Tatum WITH Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. I also noticed that they have now included his image among the rotating images of the characters on the homepage. He wasn't there the other day. It's obvious that there is more to it than just the 3D conversion. I personally think it's a mix of things, like for one GI JOE would have been destroyed by The Amazing Spider-Man the very next week, so it really didn't stand a chance at all at the box office. So if they wanted this movie to make a decent box office, then moving it was a smart thing to do. However, these release dates have been set in stone for a long time now. So the move should have come months ago. But like I said, I really do think it's a mix of a bunch of different things. It sucks too, because I was really looking forward to seeing this as it looks MUCH better than the first one.
