G.I Joe 2 moved to March 2013 - film conversion to 3D

i was excited for this film for a number of reasons...the rock and bruce willis are two of those reasons and less channing tatum was another reason...

I can't picture Bruce Willis as Joe Colton, I mean to me he looks like John McLane dumped into another action movie.

I think they'll add more of Bruce Willis and call it Die Hard 5:Retaliation.

It's obvious he was hired, because he wouldn't give the suits any problems regarding their notes, considering how much trouble Sommers gave them, it was pretty obvious they weren't going for established guys. But I try not to hold a director's past films as an indication that they can't do _____ films. I mean Peter Jackson and Lord of the Rings comes to mind, nothing about his past low budget splatter films said that he would be a good choice for a sprawling epic like that.

At least Jackson made clever stuff like Meet The Feebles and Forgotten Silver.

Chu on the other hand made two Step Up flicks and a Justin Bieber documentary.

While I can't say that I'm 100% behind Channing, I wasn't a fan of his either until I saw 21 Jump Street. He proved me a little wrong with that performance and I really liked him in that movie. Now I'm sure it's just a different kind of movie between that and GI Joe but I wouldn't mind seeing more of Duke in this film...even though........................

The 3D will look like crap no matter how much time they spend on it.

Exactly.

I don't buy the 'we need to have time to do the 3D conversion' crap for a minute.

I think another thing that's going to backfire on Paramount is the fact that the merchandise is already out and has been shipped to retail stores since they announced the push back. I remember the day I read that the movie was coming out in March, we had already got our shipment of GI Joe toys.

Wonder how much this will hurt the overall profit of the film?

Well doing such a big delay like this a month out before release is certainly going to cost them. I wonder how much though. You would think they would've started making prints and all that but not just that the big marketing campaign they were preparing for the June release. So now they basically have to do a whole new one from scratch.

I never had hopes for John Chu, I mean hello he directed Step Up 2 Da Streets.

Hopefully with this delay, Paramount can still make this a decent movie. And they should not kill Duke, so what if Channing Tatum is playing him, he's the lead character of G.I. Joe.
Agreed put him and the other main Joes who are fan favs in a coma for the movie but don't kill him. Just recast after the movie is done or soft reboot. But you can't kill Duke regardless who is playing him.

The weird thing is, I feel exactly the opposite; I couldnt take it in the last Die Hard movie due to Bruce's bald head - he just didnt look like McClane to me anymore. For that reason, I can totally buy him as Joe.

I don't thing Tatum is a bad actor, he just doesn't really know sometimes how to pick scripts.

I have to somewhat disagree. The roles he as chosen have been good and diverse. In fact I would say that his star power is up to the point where he is being offered many good roles.

The problem with his acting however is that he sounds to monotone and does not know or how to express his emotions through his mannerisms and voice that well. So when he is reciting lines that need emphasis it sounds very memorized and just recited as opposed to natural/organic.

Which means he can't act.

I guess you can take it that way, or he needs more coaching. He was good in 21 Jump Street IMO.

He was the funniest part of 21 jump street. His movies make money. Which is what Paramount wants. They need a live action hit, 3D over seas will help as will being far away from Spidey and Bats. Alot of Big budget Blockbusters this year got their ass kicked by Avengers or just didnt bring in crowds. Probably wanted a better release date.

What other blockbusters got their asses kicked this year? I thought Battleship was decent. It may not have done great, but I'm sure it didn't do bad, did it? Not sure if I liked it better than John Carter of Mars.

Yeah, I'm sure either his part in G.I. Joe will either be really long now or he won't die at all lol.

However, I agree that it will do better if further away from Avengers, Spiderman, & TDKR. They probably would have been better off shooting for a Aug release. Not sure why they pit some movies against each other, knowing they won't do that well.

I didn't particularly find him funny in 21 Jump Street. Most of the time, I couldn't even understand what he was saying. He was mumbling most of the time.

Yeah I think its more BAttleship. I should have worded that different. Battleship only made like $70 mil domestic on over a $200mil budget. Cant just bet on domestic now adays. They know they can get the sales increased WW with 3D. Paramount seems to be in some trouble with their big budget flicks at the moment so Im thinking pulling it from Summer last min might have actually been a good call for the Box office. I wonder why they didnt do 3D in the first place. Im sure its all money stuff, but I also wonder if test screenings werent too good as well.

Okay, yeah I agree with that. However, I think they pulled it because of more than it not being in 3D, mostly do to Channing Tatum's star power right now.

Yeah, I think both will factor. As well as a bad release date between two big movies. They will have to pay for 3D conversion so I guess they think it will be worth it in the long haul. Still wondering why they didnt do 3D in the first place.

Well the thing about 3D is it is practically a waste if no scenes are shot in 3d anyway. Just making a film in 3d but not utilizing the effects is a waste and time consuming. A few movies have done it and were better off if they had not done it at all.

By making it 3d I hope they actually have things flying out towards the audience, otherwise they will be wasting money for nothing.

Agreed, personally I can stand 3D. I dont think they are doing it for the effect. Strictly box office intake.

Unfortunately, I'm sure they are as well. But seeing as how the movie won't be released until next year they should really shoot some scenes that will make use of 3D.
