Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gabriel Luna to do a Ghost Rider TV show for Hulu

Finally! I've wanted to see this for years. I'm hoping that if it's a hit, we'll see new series for Blade, Moon Knight, Man-Thing and Werewolf by Night.

Moon Knight would be the connective tissue between the Defenders and Midnight Sons.

Is he still going to be Ghost Driver in this?

Geez not another Marvel tv show that will be ignored by the movies... and its ignoring Aos? what a mess.

I don't think it will be an entirely new iteration of the character per se. What I think this will actually mean is Robbie will already be Ghost Rider once the show begins and they won't reference anything that happened on AoS at all and that the tone of the show will be entirely different. But I am also betting they don't do anything to actively contradict AoS, either.

Yeah if they can avoid doing an origin episode, this was already done on AoS. We don't get Hulu in Australia, but I'd guess this is where Daredevil and The Punisher shows will go to in a couple years time. I doubt if the Jess Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist shows will come back.

Being on Hulu gives the advantage of the show being more violent, having swearing and sex scenes, which isn't possible on a free to air show. The disadvantage of AoS, is it's a low budget show and GR needs more expensive VFX.

AoS has done some pretty amazing stuff with their budget. The CGI we got for Ghost Rider during his run on AoS were about as close to movie quality as you are going to get, it was phenomenal.

Agreed. I hope Ghost Rider in his show isn't too far a cry visually from how he looked on AoS. He looked awesome. Just compliment that look with more moody lighting and such. I do think this being on Hulu is the right call. Ghost Rider should be edgy more like a Netflix show.

I hope he's not going to only turn into Ghost Rider briefly like on AOS. We should be past the days of only a couple of short appearances per episode like the old Hulk Tv show.

This being a Hulu show, I would venture to say it will have a higher budget than your average AoS episode. Or at the very least, the show will be framed to maximize the Rider's appearances so he is not the Rider for like 5 seconds and then done.

The idea that this is going to be a completely new iteration of the character ignoring everything in Agents of SHIELD sounds almost too moronic to be true.

Why? Agents of SHIELD has comfortably higher production values than Runaways.

Do you have production budgets? Also factor in a season of AoS has more episodes, so its budget is spread through 22 (and now 13 for S6) vs 10 or 13 for Runaways. So the average episode may cost more.

No but I have eyes. If people expect a Hulu show to put more on screen than Agents of SHIELD then I think they're going to end up being disappointed.

Runaways costs more than I think you think it does. Remember, that show a raptor in it that is entirely CG at all times. Though it doesn't do much in the show, it existing is a constant expense. I know the average episode of Daredevil according to sources I just reviewed said that cost like 4 million per episode, which is a lot for a show. Hulu's budget would be closer to a Netflix level budget than a network show's would be (unless it is a HUGE show like House MD. back in the day).

I said this in another thread but I doubt they're completely ignoring AoS. If they were going to reboot it they wouldn't be using Robbie Reyes or cast Gabriel Luna. I'm willing to bet we may get a passing reference. Any flashbacks to his origin would use the same footage and only expand on it. Really there's no need to bring up Shield because they have no lingering plot lines. The story will start with some time after Robbie hid the Darkhold, Robbie riding around the country doing Ghost Rider's work, brief talk about his origin(maybe set up Johnny Blaze), how his brother believes he's dead, then the main plot shows up.

As for budget and his effects I wouldn't be too concerned with how often he'd appear. He was more of a guest character for the season and the show had a lot more effect/budget concerns. Here he's the main focus so the production have to make the skull and car effects the number one priority. The fx department will make shortcuts and presets so they can easily do it, and it'll only get better as the show continues. The real reason it may be limited is because if they can't get the voice right for exposition they may want to use Gabriel's face for exposition and emotional scenes. More of a creative choice than a budget one.

Old Lace is not "entirely CG at all times", they have a practical puppet that they use almost all of the time that it's on screen (which isn't very often) and only use CGI when they absolutely have to.

Good rule of thumb for that, if the actor or a prop is touching it/the full creature isn't shown it's a puppet. If you see the full body running and jumping then that's cgi.

I haven't gotten to season 2 of Runaways but season one had quite a few problems with cgi. Not with how the cgi looks but with how the actors directors film the scenes. It felt like the director thought that no matter what they filmed the cgi would magically make it look good and so the actors had very little direction. Bad or little effect can be forgiven if the characters/plot/visual storytelling is engaging or on point. There are some shots in the show that's great, I love the final shot of the season. But the one where they all use their powers for the first time is so horrible blocked and shot that it made what should have been a huge highlight in the season a goofy looking let down. Though Runaways is more of a drama than an action show and they do that very well.

Ghost will definitely be an action show, so it won't have that many problems. I mean Agents of Shield had a ton of really awesome well done scenes for Ghost Rider. If they can get the cgi flames on the car looking good (which is why I suspect we saw so little of it with flaming tires) then they'll be set. For me as long as we get one fire skull per episode and every time it the most bad ass thing ever than I'm happy.

Basically exactly what I was thinking.

Damn wish this was on Disney+(which I'll be getting for the Mando) , I had no reason to get HULU.
If they were also doing a new Blade (Eric Brooks) and then teamed him with Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) with Brooks and Reyes as the start of a new Midnight Sons I'd be all in.

Reyes and the Hell-Charger need to make the jump into their own forum!

Now that Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider is getting his own TV show (separate from SHIELD), can a mod collect all the Ghost Rider TV threads about it, into his own NEW Ghost Rider TV Series forum under Marvel TV.

Some to collect there:
Gabriel Luna to do a Ghost Rider TV show for Hulu
Ghost Rider show, writers?

I hope they can reintroduce Blaze and the Motorcycle in this series.
If so I like the suggestion of Charlie Hunnam as Blaze.
(yes cause SoA)
