Really you know, we should all wait for the Storyboards and design images, but in truth Kirby has already given us that. It workes for me.

Worked for a majority of hardcore FF fans over the years.

I will bet it would work for mainstream movie goers if handled right.

It can work in the hands of a director who loves the character and understands that this is the Holy Grail story of Fantastic Four lore.

If they mess up here man, that would be sad.

I think Tim Story can get this done.

I have to have Kirby's Galactus and his Silver Surfer.

Let the King be venerated in the beauty and majesty of his designs.

In the world of marvel comics if this is mishandled it would be bigger than the misteps on Doom's portrayal.

Story needs to hit a home run, I hope that his vision is good and that he can see what needs to be done here.

I understand Lightnings concerns about the need for evolution but you know what, I don't think you can improve much on what Lee and Kirby did on Galactus and I hope Tim gives us Kirby's version.

And that ultimate gah lak tus nonsense should not be spoken of again.

It did not work in the comics and if they try it for the movie it will create a fire storm (pun intended) across the internet.

I completely forgot to mention that the same liberty was taken with Doom, the same logic was applied, and look where THAT got us.

I don't know if that's true. There have been PLENTY of giant beings depicted on the big screen in the past.
And keep in mind Galactus would HAVE to be handled VERY carefully, and with GREAT care.
He shouldn't be running around the city like King Kong,..or acting silly in any way. but picture this,...the Ship is orbiting earth we get a glimpse of the interior,..the camera pans,..and we See Galactus lift his head.
remember in the comics Galactus does VERY little.
he basically just stands there,...and THAT's how it should be in the film as well.
I think a lot of people just automatically assume the worse,..that he wouldn be walking between buildings, talking up a storm, and running around with his skirt flapping in the wind,..or something.

Let me go on record to say THAT wouldn't work/

but can we make that pic (above) look menacing,...you bet....

He's not just some giant humanoid, that's easy to show. They need to show him as one of the fundamental universal forces, which is a bit more difficult to do visually speaking.

If all they show is the big guy looking down on earth and Silver Surfer saying, "He wants to eat your world.", that's a waste of screen time.

And that is what is going to seal the deal. It might also be for the best, it forces the director come up with creative solutions.

I´m reminded of Hitchcock and his way of thinking when it comes to violence movies, to audience imagination is the best thing to use. Usually you picture something really violent in your head when something violent is hinted at. This is used really well in Se7en where none of the victims are killed on-screen but you only see the end result or hear about it. Gives the impression that the movie is full of gore when it´s really not.

That's why I'm arguing for Silhouettes, hints, outlines and shadows. That's the better way to show godlike beings or universal forces in human form.

Why? How come on every Marvel/Fox movie we(comic fans) have to worry on what "element" FOX will either change or eliminate from the story? From black leather suits , Elektra love scenes and fights in the park , to a Johnny Storm with flaming fingers and a cosmic ray powered doom .
On FF2 if they're doing Galactus PLEASE, PLEASE DO IT RIGHT! I want a Watcher, a GIANT Watcher, a cosmic SS, and lastly Galactus done like well, GALACTUS!!!
If FOX won't or can't then please pick another story. I have waited and dreamed for decades to see these stories on the Big Screen because they are great and dear to me. If the 80's brought us a giant StayPuff Marshmellow man, 2007 can bring us a credible Galactus in character. Make Mine Marvel!

Absolutely - that's what I've been saying all along! In this case, "less is more" truly applies. Remember, Galactus is a force of nature and it has been established that his appearance is different to different beings. Let's sidestep the problem of physical appearance completely.

Now if only the writers and the director would see it this way.

Galactus with a dark blue uniform and a helmet more akin to Magneto may work,like Kel says just make him a bit smaller than the books,say 20 feet tall and you can still convey his power but a straight warts and all adaption would not work onscreen

some slight changes could be made to the Helmet. Perhaps the antlers could be a bit smaller, or somehow be made to look more tech, but the basic shape and design should be there.
as for the color, perhpas it could be darker or lighter, or a different hue,..whatever it takes to make THAT costume work.
but to change it to another color, like the X costumes, and to completely redesign the helmet,..is to change Galactus into someone else.

I have no problem with changing the helmet/costume of Galactus. It is one of the few alterations to him a can take. As long as he is a giant, singular being who wields the power cosmic, then I'll be happy. Oh, and his personality should reflect that of his comic counter part.

The only way I'd want to see Galactus...is if:
a) He's a giant, looking very similiar to his comic counter-part...only he rides in a giant spaceship where he sits on a throne and devours planets.

b) He's a giant being that floats around space, but has no physical form in the way we know it...more like a blackness in space so massive it blots out the stars and has the FIGURE of Galactus.

Well then i hope you get what you are hoping for,i wouldn't be against it despite not thinking it's a great design but i believe there will be some big changes to the costume and hat b/c i don't think it's viable as is cinematically and thats if they don't use Gah Lak Tus

Well we all clearly have our preferences. Not a bad thing really.

I actually think that the Galactus Concept will win over regular movie goers. (I think it will kill any transformer out there)

I also think that the Kirby design would make most FF fans happy.

I expect FF2 to do really well. If Story can get Galactus and Surfer right I expect it to do really really well. For the first time I think Fox (blashemy I know) and Marvel are taking a risk.

I think Story must take the praise for this as I know Avi wanted or suggested puppet master. With Galactus it looks like Tim wants to take this thing cosmic.

Of course if he blows it he will also get the blame and the risks of Story and Fox cutting corners are great.

however I see the possible casting of Doug Jones and other casting rumors on a Doom stand in as a sign that the studio is going with low budget talent in order to spend the money on other areas.

Fox does not do 2.3 million bullet to the eye shots unless its absolutely necessary.

One thing that I do find curious is the almost universal agreement among the FF Hype that Doom's design was not to be messed with as opposed to the obvious ambilavalence towards the Galactus Design.

Nevertheless Kirby is a master. I say give us the Kirby Design, I bet my bottom dollar it will work.

Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer comes too early, I would have liked a Silver Surfer origin movie first, and then a crossover event. And it wouldn't bother me so much if the first Fantastic Four movie had been a real good solid actors movie rather than the cheap B-Class TV level show it really was; Fox is raising the barn roof before the foundations and the walls are even up

The way things are going on at Fox these days Marvel should take back all their properties and start over themselves, unless there's an other studio and director they can trust not to botch everything up again

Personally before I see an other Fantastic Four movie again, I'm going to have to see major directing and cast changes, and a lot of reassurance from all sides that The Fantastic Four will finally be taken seriously; just using the same direction and cast of the 2005 movie is just going to drag in the mod and ruin what could be a great individual Silver Surfer franchise

Why do I get the feeling that this could be Daredevil and Elektra all over again. I just hope once a Silver Surfer movie comes out, it won't bomb like Elektra did.
