Game of Thrones - HBO part 2

I'm beginning to really dig the minimalism in this show. Because the story is so grand and they only have so much time/so much money, it's forcing creativity to take hold and get everything across gracefully. They were definitely struggling with it in some of the first few episodes, but they seem to have ironed out most of the kinks and made one hell of a great show.

great episode lots of characters got their due but i was happy to see rob get more screen presence

I don't watch the show but I just wanna say I love all the nude scenes coming from this show.

That was a really good episode. This show is getting great.

I'm in love with this series and love to watch it again and again!!

haha, Ned will never [blackout] swear to that[/blackout] :P exciting! next week cant come soon enough!

too bad tho Aryas
first kill was so anticlimactic. would have wanted her to be a little more Stark-badass:y

[BLACKOUT]The "dancing" instructor[/BLACKOUT] :(. At least he had a badass final stand

Is he confirmed dead? I mean yeah she left him fighting a knight with only a broken wooden sword but that guy was pretty badass.

That's pretty much how it went in the books. Awkward, all her training had left her at that moment.

That was an awesome scene... just like I pictured it in the book. Although... you'd think the "Dancing Instructor" would have picked up a real sword instead of continuing to fight with a broken practice sword. In the book, they never show/tell you that he met his end... but they didn't leave you thinking he made it out either. GRRM basically lets the reader know that he wasn't going to make it out.

Funny how the episode I thought to the biggest leaps in time and action was the one written by GRRM. Also... thought that the changing of how Drogo got injured was interesting... especially since GRRM made the change himself.

Yes he's dead.

Only if they continue to follow the books; which there is no guarantee. The fact that viewers can easily find out what's going to happen next by going online might even persuade the producers to go a different direction. Granted, they have thus far gone to great lengths to keep things as faithful as possible but this doesn't guarantee future decisions...

Also, there is a common fan theory that Arya's [BLACKOUT]next companion, Jaqen[/BLACKOUT] is actually Syrio. :oldrazz:

Yeah I've never really bought into the [BLACKOUT]Jaquen=Syrio[/BLACKOUT] theory.
Why would a faceless man be masquerading as a sword fighting instructor? We found out in book 4 that Jaquen has a clear motive that's yet to be revealed.

Well it's a theory, except physically one of those men is way larger than the other. In fact, the former is quite known for his compact form. So unless he grew a few feet from one book to the next in a space that's about 4 days story time then no it's not the same guy.

They will continue to follow the books, because it's a really complex story with lots of characters and bits of subtle foreshadowing that won't stand up to change even simple bits of dialogue. It's like changing stuff in War And Peace.

Indeed, he could be alive. I doubt he is, but True Blood famously did not kill off an amazing character called Lafayette who died in the first book of that series. And it was for the best, as he is one of the best parts of the show.

Drogo ripping out the guy's tongue through his throat.

The guy can change his face with magic. Odds are he can change other parts of his appearance too. But yeah, it's nothing more than a fun theory and even I'm not particularly convinced. Just pointing out that it's plausible.

Correction: They will try to continue to follow the books, for now. There are lots of factors involved in running a show; especially one of this scale - and the least of it is creativity. What if the execs or the showrunners decide [blackout]Sean Bean's[/blackout] character is too much of a fan favourite to be killed off and still retain viewers? Or what if any of the various child actors decide to focus more on school and cuts back on the time spent filming? Or what if an actor decides to move on to another project before the planned six or seven years needed to fully tell the story as per the books (assuming GRRM can get the last book out in time)?

Any of these things can happen, have happened to other shows in the past and will happen in shows to come, and would completely blow original plan to bits.

And what if my nose was a doorpost? Where would I put the hinges?

People can like characters all they want, but GRRM wrote it that way for a reason, everyone can die at any moment, be it beloved character or hated one. People leaving, they can be recast. Child actors cut back in time? Well they knew the commitment comign in, they can also be recast if they get unwieldy.

And that right there would be the biggest reason to deviate from the source material. One of the biggest appeals of the Song of Fire and Ice series is that there is genuine shock and tension since any of the characters (including the POV ones) can die at any point. Not so with the TV series; since it's retreading what's already been told.

As for dealing with the hole left by actors who (for whatever reason) leave the show, would you honestly prefer the show pull a Darrin instead of just being pragmatic about it?
