She smothers him all the time because she's kinda crazy herself, and the whole time he's been alive her husband Jon has been in Kings Landing serving as Targaryan's Hand. The boy never met his father, but the mother spent all those years obsessiing over the last peice of her husband left to her ... till he died then it went even further. But he's an interesting, if damaged character).

Raiden - Debate with yourself if you want, but you should finish it if you spent the money and got the book. Heck, at this point it's been moths the show is running, that book should not have taken more than 4 days. And yes, it was quite evident with what you asked me that you had not finished the book. A little information is usually more hurtful than non at all as they say.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It may be nice to be surprised by the show, but I can also get the same (literary) surprise from reading the book as well.

Btw, I didn't really anticipate the end of that character so soon, particularly since we're only 6 eps in. What I like is that it demonstrates the author not afraid to pull the trigger, so just about every character can be next. Having read some novels where you can pretty much count who will live to the end, it's nice to have a story like GoT where nothing is absolutely certain.

That's what I love about GRRM and it keeps the reader hooked in. He spends tons of pages developing the characters but if the story gets to a point where the character would die, then die s/he will. To me that is what makes these books so "real". There is no hero or villian, good or evil. These are just people who make crappy choices at times in their life and pay for those choices.

Ned really breaks my heart. The burden on his face is so telling and I get so angry with all the jerks in King's Landing. It's very frustrating watching this show sometimes as it was reading the books. The actor is very good at conveying his emotions with his face, speech, and body language.

Just finished episode7 and apart from the ****ehouse scene everythign else was great and didnt see that ending coming. Stark always seems to get screwed over.

you win overwhelmingly win the male audience, therefore the brothel scene was there to keep eyes on the screen.

i barely paid attention to anything littlefinger said :awesome:

I've heard quite a few people voice their concerns about the sex scenes and nudity in this show being unnecessary. Pretty sure drinking, sleeping around, and fighting were the only things to do around that time period.

I for one never complain when there's too much of that going on, since as a guy who loves looking at beautiful girls it never gets old or bored. And after watching other HBO shows like True Blood, I don't think it should be a surprise to anyone that they'd put stuff like this which will pull in adult male viewers. HBO, Showtime, and Starz all do it and judging from the rating, the audience love these types of things.

I guess the more conservative fans would rather see something closer to LoTR where the sex is implied but seen on camera.

The lesbian scene was just to long. Im fine with nudity/sex in shows but that scene just took to long to get to the point. They couldve cut about 1/2mins from it.

Right, but if I wanted to watch a ****ing porno, I'd watch a porno.

Funny, cuz I tend to enjoy the sexual scenarios in movies/tv series more than just watchin a porn. Don't ask me why though. Perhaps b/c there's a story behind the humping.

Unless you're watching TV with your grandmother and your priest, I don't see how or why it's so awkward.

By your logic, we should only confine sex scenes to adult movies then. No more movies like Basic Instinct or 9 1/2 Week, etc.

Btw, I don't think I'm the only one who think Joffrey was sent by his mother to make that quick apology to Sansa, just before Ned was about to send his daughters back to Weatherfelt.

If I remember the Queen asked her son to apologize to Sansa in the previous episode.

4 days?? Maybe if you didn't have to work, play sports and more importantly save the galaxy in Mass Effect 2 and win the Stanley Cup in NHL 11... that is a busy schedule. Its taken me almost 2 weeks to read the book (still about 100 pages from the finish)

And regarding the debate about the show having added scenes, not in the book... Having been reading the book almost along with the series (episode for episode) I think they are doing a great job of adding in scenes in to explain to the TV audience who some of these characters are and what they are all about. In the books, they go over and over the history of the 7 kingdoms and slowly but surely let you know stuff... a tv show doesn't have that same ability to get into the minds of characters or just delve into the history without a voiceover or a character explaining it. I think they are doing a great job of the show so far.

Ned to me is the last of the really good guys. He is trying to run the 7 like he ruled in Winterfell, as just an honest Lord. But that's his problem. These people are so cutthroat it's insane. Politics at it's worse.

I can see why Ned Stark wants no part of being the Hand, but after King Robert threated him by saying that he'd give it to the Queen if he turned it down, he was backed into a corner. I think that's why he tried to send his daughters back to Winterfell, because he was gonna go after the Lannisters and he knew his life may be in peril, but the girls have none of it. I do fear for his life for openly challenging the most affluent family in the 7 Kingdom, though.

Btw, just like Rage I don't have much time after work, hence the reason for my slow reading of the first book. I managed to finish Bran's chapter last night, but in doing so I only had 5 hours of sleep before I have to wake up and drive almost an hour to work. My family & kids also take most of my free time away as well.

What implication? Middle Earth seemed to be a pretty chaste land with only courtly love. While so far, Westeros's tales aren't as gripping, I can understand the author's criticism of Tolkien shying away from human nature in that regard.

I believe Robert was just joking with Ned about making Jaime the Hand. I think the real reason Ned stayed and became the Hand again was because these two guys have great love and respect for one another. Like Robert said he has two brothers but had no love for them. The one brother he chose and loved was Ned. Because Ned feels the same, he was honor bound to stay, knowing that he was outmatched in the Game of Thrones in King's Landing and would probably die. "When you play the Game of Thrones you win or you die." But he wanted to protect his daughters and get them the hell out of this gods forsaken place and back to Winterfell.

I concur. How many episodes are we getting this season? Hope it's more than 10
