Fair enough, I was curious about it, I don't care either way for the curse, Syncos.

I think the main problem is how they will get away with it since Lex knows Clark is an alien. He'll know Clark is Superman once he debuts in Metropolis.

I have to disagree with this. Normally I would have no problems with just assuming no one knows or that the certain few people who know would keep it a secret, but this is where Smallville has dug itself into a pretty big hole. Since around season 3-4, I've been waiting for the dual identity storyline and the forging of the glasses-wearing Clark Kent but now, it's way too late. I have this feeling that no matter how the writers explain the glasses and no one recognizing him, I'll still be disappointed because pretty much everyone and their dog knows Clark.

But no, they can't address it. It's the final insult to the fans. As my post said, "How dumb was she?" they would be asking the fans, "How dumb are you?" if they did that.

I'm sorry, but if they attempt to use mind-wipe/magic/super-powers/Dues ex Machina, they would insults the fans, and the Suspension of Disbelief, which is the only way to enjoy comics, TV shows, or anything of the sorts, would be shattered forever.

It's like turning Clark Kent on Smallville into Superboy Prime, they can't do that.
And yes, they will address the dual identity, but they cannot address why so many people will not know he's Superman.

If they do, well, I'll be very disappointed.

Unless you count career killer, i'm pretty sure Dean Cain proved there's nothing to this "curse" other than some unfortunate events happening to some of the people who've played superman.

I think the majority of the fans will be insulted if they don't solve the secret identity crisis. One simple line of dialogue may even do the trick but if they don't even mention it, it would be a slap to the Smallville fans who have been eagerly awaiting the solution.

Why can't Smallville get the same Suspension of Disbelief as the Lord of the Rings Saga? Does Smallville have to wait 100 years before people don't complain?

To me, if they address it by a throw away line, I won't complain.

Suspension of Disbelief is a big deal here. No one needs to know why no one knows Clark is Superman in the comics, even though it has been explained, probably begrudgingly.

Suspension of Disbelief. I can't explain it better than that. Honestly. I can't. I mean, why would Smallville have to explain it? It's obvious, really, Suspension of Disbelief.

If the show said something along the lines of "People don't know who you are because of Suspension of Disbelief." it would be totally fine with me.
And true. That's the big thing.

Perry White sees Superman and sees Clark, and he's like. "Nah, Clark Kent can't be Superman! He's too timid, he's meek."

Perry White has already seen Clark without his glasses and not as a timid/meek guy. Clark isn't the bumbling guy that Reeve portrayed in the movies. (I always hated it when Lois described Clark as bumbling. He never once exhibited the Clark Kent movie characteristics IMO).

But as I said, it's Suspension of Disbelief.

Breaking that barrier on Smallville would be like shattering the fourth Wall, completely destroying it, and turning the show into a Superman version of Clarissa Explains it all. Or Wayne's World if you prefer. Or even Metal Gear Solid. "Superman! I need scissors! 61!"

I mean, would you want Tom Welling to look at the camera while flying as Superman and saying. "I wish Christopher Reeve could see me now?" This show is not designed for breaking the fourth wall.

Man of Tomorrow, you realize you're agreeing with what Avidreader said, right?

He's saying that it doesn't matter that he's called Superman now, he's still the same person that he was born as. Just a different name. Kind of like if I change my name to Tim, from what it currently is, I'm still the same person.

So, really, Tom Welling hasn't played Superman per se, he played Kal-El. And Superman is just a name.

well sv clark is never meant to be a bumbling fool like reeve's clark was. which i like. we dont need to see that type of clark any more in this day and age. Now as to what smallville does during this season about the dual identity i hope they come up with something good.

I agree. It's a good thing they didn't do the bumbling reporter thing.

That's one of the Silver Age things I don't like.
Also, the obsession of Lois for Superman, whether Golden, Silver or Bronze, was also kind of annoying. "He's the only man who's never given me a tumble." Golden Age Lois

Modern Era's Lois falling for Clark is one thing I'm glad Smallville did.

As for the identity, I'll wait and see.
