Season 9.....a Possibility?

I don't mind another season, but I can just see two things happening.

1. They add a new character in ANOTHER attempt to make a spinoff.
2. Spinoff will fail to get made, and the producers will say "Well, we'd be really happy to do a season 10...."

^^ And then what, a S11?

I don't think so, if Tom signs for one more season is because it should be the last one, is hard enough to have to go thru the same crap next year (new contract process), S9 should be it. Clark will be basically Superman sans suit, is ok for one year, but then it would get kind of ridiculous to stall that moment.

**** them, man. They cant even get off their asses to do a Superman movie, why should they tell SV what they can or cannot use?!

Well, that's the way it is unfortunately, these "geniuses" don't want Batman on the show either.... and now every superhero movie has to be "dark". :cmad:

I hope Smallville runs for at least 10 seasons.

yeah i don't feel right it ending on an odd number be a nice round number if it ended ith ten. That's a nice round number like thirty years lol

If this show goes past 9 seasons they better give us some flights and tights. Fo reelz!

Do they get to go into like... super syndication if they get 200+ episodes? That'd be interesting.

Hope this season finally wraps everything up. Really feel like the show is a vast improvement over the previous seasons.

so I guess we really won't know until May during the upfronts?

How is it possible for Smallville to have a season ender that can also be viewed as a series finale? What are they going to do have Clark become Superman just to be revealed in the premiere that it was a dream??

What was that saying about not counting eggs?

Per usual, we don't know 'nuthin, until we do. ;)

You can't have a season ender that could also serve as a series ender for Smallville!!?

At least not to allow for everyone who has stuck with this show from the beginning to get the payoff of seeing at the very least a glimpse of Supes.

Because if it turns out to be just a season ender than you would have a show about Superman the next year and we know that won't happen.

I'm sure something could be written, but I can't help but feel it won't be what we have all waited for as Syncos said. We need a proper send off after all of this time...I didn't sit through Tori Spelling turning into water and Pete getting Kryptonite bubble gum powers for nothing!!!:cmad:

I will continue to hope for the best though that Osteroff or whatever her name is doesn't ruin things. It's bad enough having the movie division screwing around with the Superman films. We don't need the CW joining in too.

If WB wants to produce another year of SV then there will be another year. CW has no say in it what-so-ever.

The ninth season may not air on CW but it would air on some network if WB wanted to shop it.

But guaranteed, there is no season finale that could act as a series finale. At least not one that would please a single fan, while leaving the option for a non-Superman show next year.

That's stupid. Stupid stupid stupid.

This article sounds better

Yesterday, I asked the CW's President of Entertainment, Dawn Ostroff, how likely it is that we'll see another season, and she replied, "We're starting to talk about it. Obviously, we are prepared either way. If the show doesn't go on, we've got a series finale that the writers have been thinking about, but I think we'd all love to see the show come back."

It doesn't sound much better, IMO. "We've got a series finale that the writers have been thinking about..." That could still be the same finale talked about in the other article... the one that would/could double as a season finale. Bleh. The only thing that sounds slightly better is her saying "I think we'd all love to see the show come back," but that's also typical noncommittal showbiz talk.

The problem with the CW is its finances, plus the crisis is not helping either. SV is expensive of course, if there's a S9, they will have to write off some characters to keep decent SFX, specially with Clark flying, new characters and supervillains. Tom could sign, but the CW's financial situation could make them end the series. This is a situation of wanting to keep it going, but maybe lacking the means to do so, time will tell.

I think the other quote is from a while ago, at least that stuff sounds familar...but the writers/producers have always said they have a series finale in mind. Hopefully we'll get an official word soon.

I think they should shoot two different episodes (one a season finale and the other a series finale). I know Everwood did it and it turned out okay.

I would like to see a proper ending to Smallville with Tom in the super suit . I have allways found the reason given that Smallville can't use the suit because it would 'intefere' with the movie franchise ( which I thought one poster here summed up really well is in the 'Phantom Zone' ) quite silly .

I think people would easily accept that when Smallville ends its run , that was the tv version of the character and when the new movie comes out of the Phantom Zone with the movie version of the character with who ever plays Superman the two are different .

Also it would be pretty ironic that if the show were to end this year , as i do think its been the best season for ages both in terms of story and character development .

Hmm... I know they've had a series finale in mind, I just hope they aren't forced to compromise it to make it work as both a season finale and a possibly-maybe-could-work-until-we-know-for-sure-if-we're-coming-back-or-not series finale. The series finale needs to be pure, bold, unadulterated. Being in a position of "Well, we have to tie up this season and... oh, dear, the whole show," in the one hour time slot wouldn't bode well, IMO. Yes, hopefully there'll be official word soon. 9 seasons would be a stretch, yeah, but I would rather them end this season knowing they were going into a 9th.
