Gamer Claims Identifying As a Lesbian Led To Xbox Live Ban

well were friggin tired of throwing your straightness in our faces. we have to deal with it on every single day. So, so should you. :o

When was the last time you saw a gamer profile that said " I am straight"? I'm gonna go with never. None of it belongs on xbox live unless its with personal friends. The rest of us dont give a **** if you sleep with mice, mermaids, couches or gatorade bottles as long as you die like you should in CoD4

Who actually reads people's profiles? I have absolutely no interest in knowing anything about the people I meet on XBL.

throwing your "straitness" in our faces doesn't mean you have to say "i am strait" it's announcing how many girls u've banged, talking about your girlfriend, or wive... there's alot of easy things that you don't even realize your showing that makes you shove your straightness into our faces.

What is your point?

She went out of her way to put on her GAMER profile she's a lesbian and its against ToS. I agree with this ban. There was no need for her to do that. No one asked, no one wanted to know but shes gay and proud and wants the world to know. Great. Maybe sony cares try there online service.

my point is, i don't think anyone should ever be allowed not to put there sexual preference in a profile. It's not exactly easy being gay, a choice we did not make. We have to watch strait couples all the time, holding hands, making out, movies about strait romances, etc etc.. we get it, that's the norm, but I get severely appauled when people say we "shove" our homosexuality down your throat, we do no such thing and it speaks volumes about your insecurities. I think there's nothing wrong with letting a gay person put gay in there profile, we as a whole, and like most minorities struggle to find a place, and to some there sexuality makes them who they are (i don't agree with people like that, but i do accept some are) so i really don't think it's too much to ask to let us have that.

Actually there is something wrong with putting gay in there profile...its against the rules set by the person who owns the rights to that profile.

Its written right in the agreement and she ingnored it and did it anyway. Banned and justified.

You expect special treatment because your gay? **** that. As for you being minorities and have to suffer watching the rest of the "normal" world do there things. Whatever. Im not the insecure one you are. You cry foul when someone you can identify with gets in trouble for breaking the rules but because shes a lesbian you take her defense like she is in the right. Wrong.

What she did is flip the rules the bird and expected not to get in trouble because shes gay. She assumed they would be to afraid to do anything about it because that is what is happening with the gay community right now. Whenever something they dont agree with happens they yell and scream there rights are violated and people back off. **** that. Break rules get punished.

I get that it's against the rules, what i'm saying is, that it shouldn't be. The logic is ridiculous, it's in the rules to "avoid harassment and confrontation" well guess what Microsoft, the verbal harassment on live is far worse then anything in a profile. This whole situation is simply ridiculous, and Microsoft should be worried about far greater things, like cam nudity (there were reports of people showing there junk on some game a while back), as well as the verbal harassment on live. There's much bigger fish to fry, and the rule is just stupid.

It's a very valid fight and very valid agreement. All the proof she needs in doing so is simply find a profile that lets one deduce someones heterosexuality, which i'm sure would not be hard to find. Were not asking for "special treatment" just equal treatment. I guarantee you it wouldn't be hard to deduce someones hetero sexuality in a profile. Personally my problem is why is it such a big deal to put anyones sexuality in a profile? esp if its important to them.

Legal fees is your answer to why it is a big deal. They are a business and legal fees eat profit so to avoid anything like that they set these kinds of rules.

Spidey maybe you should listen to the podcast I linked to a few posts back as they explain alot of what you seem to be complaining about.

i've listened to it, i just think live should worry more about verbal assults, then profile stuff.

According to them they do. In the interview the policy manager says that if she would have given his team the Gamer Tags of the members that she said harassed her they would have received a far harsher punishment then any that she received for breaking the ToS by mentioning her sexual orientation.

Yeah, but what can you do? How can you edit/control what people say?

have mods, just like the hype, But where as the hype is written, you'd have mods looking for verbal words. And harassment in rooms. You couldn't catch anything, but knowing there out there i think would shut alot up.

They do have "mods". That is also mentioned in the interview. Maybe you missed it.

true, but i still think it's a greater concern, especially for a younger audience

Most of the major online-support games are meant for older audiences anyway (at least teenagers, if not adults). I.e.- Call of Duty, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto, etc. Those "younger audiences" have no place playing the game in many of the cases I've come across.

Frankly, the younger audience I've come across are just as foul mouthed and ban worthy as the older audience.

Oh, I never said I don't agree with that. :p

I'd almost go so far as to say XBox Live should have an age limit itself.

If you input that you are under 18, you can't download M rated game demos or trailers.

IMO they need to have tighter age control on Xbox live. If you are playing an M rated game online, you should be at least 15 or older. I'm tired of worrying about offending 8 year olds or having them cry or scream at me because they lose.

Or 17 or older, like the legal age is to purchase the game.

That would be against the Constitution. You are basically arguing for what the ESA and the gaming industry are fighting against.

Also while 17 maybe the legal age in the US it is not true for all countries. 15 is the legal age in the UK if I'm not mistaken.

They just need to find a way to keep younger children out of M rated online games. It would keep so many problems from happening. If you have to be 15 or 17 (depending on where you live) to buy a game, then why on earth should you be allowed to play it online with people who are older, people that are going to be swearing, people who are going to be slinging sexual slurs and innuendos. Microsoft needs to work on that rather than banning someone who identified herself as a lesbian because honestly, my take on the whole thing is, Who gives a **** what your sexual orentiation is. I don't think it in any way affects gameplay. If they're banning for that then why doesn't Bungie ban from Halo people that have their emblem look like a potleaf or there've even been some that try and emulate a penis in their emblem.
