GamerGate Film 'Crash Override' In Development

I figure the simplest way to sum everything up is this: For as long as the video game industry has existed, there have been thousands of issues with its production, sales, and work environment. They've always been there. Issues relating to the quality of the games, or the price. But there's never been such a violent wave as GamerGate. So, my question is this...

...Why would gamers care more about the articles written about the games, than they do the games themselves? Because if it's a legitimate movement, this is what has happened here.
They don't care how the sausage is made. Heck, they don't honestly care about how the reviews are handled. Most don't read reviews, most look at scores. It is like watching a lot of people complain about RT scores here. They don't read the reviews, don't try to understand the reasoning. Instead it is about what you like and preserving that.

Didn't realize that about Stone. Wonder what changed is position, money?

It wouldn't surprise me, but then nothing does with that guy. I am more inclined to agree with his older view on things, or at least I favour his Nixon film over his Bush film. I'm intrigued to see how he approaches Snowden though.

Ironically enought that issue alone carried more weigt than the entire multitude of " problems" facing the gaming industry.
Which is exactly what GamerGate had nothing to do with videogames or journalism.

Videogame journalism is such a joke. It is like and even more infantile version of Sport's journalism. But I can never fully give up on it. Not when people like Danny O'Dwyer exist.

Oh man, sports journalism. That's one that just makes you shake your head. I lived in Toronto for a fair while, and the Toronto media market puts a... slight... amount of focus on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Slight. Just a lil' bit. And a very common thing to see is a player draw the ire of the collected "Toronto media". It's as if they all decided at once that the player is garbage, and worthless. It just so happens that most of the media members have sources within the organization (recently it was assistant GMs and the like) who soured on the player. So the media writes long think pieces on the sheer awfulness of said player, and it just so happens that it perfectly parrots the source's point of view.

It's almost like the source wants that POV to reach public consciousness, so it will be easier to sway the higher-ups in the organization. And then the player leaves (I miss you Phil). But then, when the GMs and assistants are replaced, suddenly everything changes somehow. Suddenly we get articles about how the player spent the off-season getting in the best shape of his life. YEAH, FOR ANOTHER TEAM.

That is a false statement.Gamergate was always a videogame phenomenon and the variety of those lend their voice to that cause(Totalbiscuit eg) are living proof to that many ti the movement does care a lot about gaming journalism.

If your statement was Gamergate never was just about gaming journalism than the statement would be true.

It was about the misogyny in the gamer community. Something far too many gamers sadly failed. This movie isn't getting made because of videogame journalism.

I have heard about the stories about the Toronto media. Find them more interesting then the articles that actually come out of Toronto. :funny:

It was also about that too although not mainly about that,or else you wouldn't any see any women and feminist joining the movement ( theyre are quite prominent in the gamegate community too)

That is like saying because we have Conservative women the Right's attack on women's right isn't sexist in the least. Which is of course, false.

I don't know enough about American inner politics make senses of that comment. An analogy I would understand would be that Islam is only about terrorism , death and violence becasue the the most prominent image of them belong to the mass murdering thugs (ISIS , just in case you missed my point).

Those women and feminist joined Gamergate because th beieves that they'll bringing postivie chane , inspite of the laud cacophany of those sexist rats in their ranks.

Not the same thing. Islam isn't an active movement. It isn't a cause, it is a way of life.

People being wrong about their movement isn't anything new. Especially when their argument misses out on what videogame journalism is and starts every conversation with having to push all the horrible things the movement is based on and around aside.

On what, "videogame journalism is". Complaining about sites having a political slate is ridiculous. If you don't want to read a story with a feminist slate, don't read a reviewer who write a feminist POV. Don't want a leftest or Conservative POV? Don't read it. There is such a non-argument here, because you decide who you read.

The only problem is how the Studios set up paying their workers, and that has nothing to do with videogame journalism.

I'm sure this will be a fair, unbiased, truthful telling of events...

And gamergate isn't this unified front with the same agenda .They are basically an imperfect amalgamation of people with difering views, agendas (some noble ,some aren't)and method of execution united under a hashtag. To make a sweeping statement of what they are and aren't pretty much guarantees that the statement will alway be false.

That obeservation also aplies to the anti-gamergaters movement.

Depend on the gamergter in question, I found some of them are quite articulate , on point and receptive to the differring views ,even from their detractor's viewspoints.

This remind me of a "debate" between gamegater with obvious diffring political leaning I came across a while go.It wasquite an entertaining read :woot:, despite me having no clue on the gist of things.

Here is the thing, ff they didn't want to be associated with those horrible people they didn't have to. Don't associate with the name gamergate. Why would anyone be beholden to that name anyways, if there is no united front?

"anti-gamergate" was a response to the horrid behavior that was on display. It didn't come out of nowhere or was based around the attack on a woman. The origins of gamergate are not in dispute. It comes from sexual harassment based around false statements.

By the way, did you know the game in question was free to play? Wasn't even worth money.

But what is anyone arguing? No one likes people being paid off for reviews, and the knowledge of it existing has been around forever. This isn't new, no one was breaking new ground. The only thing new here was the attack on women.

An argument that exist for no apparent reason I'd say.

And then there's gamergate, something I still don't understand.

Yeah, it's a pretty worthless subject for a film, since just about everyone on every side is a horrible human being.

some respected members here who will get will get banned.

dont get banned because of gamergate. we all know that gamergatte is bad. let it ..........go .

Yeah, exactly this. I'm seeing sexist overtones in certain posts and it's just going to get ugly.

God damnit. Go to bed, wake up and this thread tripled in size.

I think that Gamergate has been allies to the Sad/Sick Puppies should be all you need to know about the group.

So ScarJo wants to play Zoe Quinn.

Sup?

Bye.

:oldrazz:

So, who was he?

*looks into your blue eye of yours*

Darling, his name or what he was no longer matters. Why do banned members come back? The depth of the online universe out there, but cast out like leopards and they come back to infect us all. The horror. Young males who hate women. The most delicate and beautiful flower this dirt has ever given us. I don't know what to make of that.

*smokes clove cigarette, like old lovers once do.*

Why would anyone want to watch a movie about this? Who cares about Zoe Quinn? Who cares about Gamergate?
