GameStop has unveiled its in-store PlayStation 3 preorder campaign to GameSpot, and the retail chain looks to be bracing for a shortage of systems at launch day. Starting Tuesday morning, GameStop and EB Games stores will begin accepting "limited" preorders for the system with a $100 deposit. The preorders are "limited" in that very few will be received, and customers will not be guaranteed a PS3 on its November 17 US launch day.
"Most stores will receive a preorder allocation of eight units, while a few select stores will receive 16," a GameStop official said. "In either case, employee purchases will be restricted to a total of no more than two systems per store."
As for how the $100 can be paid, the company will accept cash, credit, or trade-in. Last month, the company conducted a test-run of preorders for the Wii and the PS3 at its Hawaii stores. In that one-day campaign, the company required that customers pay for the systems' $50 deposit with trade-in credit.
Reservations for the retailer's in-store program will be limited to one per household. The company's online preorder program will be revealed at a later date, "after software and accessory availability dates are confirmed."

Nope, I wasn't able to get one because you didn't tell us. It's all your fault. :(

I went into EB Games on my lunch break. They still had five pre-orders left! I was tempted to get one just so I could sell it off (the PS3 is too expensive for me, at least at its launch price) but I passed.

Man, I remember when a lady got trampled over the 360 and tried to sue Wal-Mart over it. This year, the shortages of PS3s will be even WORSE. They're gonna be pounding each other with their own severed limbs out there.

$100 Deposit???? How much is the System?

It seems like people who knew in advanced told their friends anyway as I called my gamestop to see how it did & the pre orders sold out within 5 minutes.

Only eight systems for most stores?!?!?!?!

Wow, Sony has truly ****ed up.

When I got my 360, there were at least 70 in-store launch night!

That probably means you went to a bigger store like Best Buy or something, though. 360 still had shortages... just not THIS bad..

I was also thinking of getting one to sell it on Ebay for 4 or 5 times the price.
Maybe I'll do it if I can somehow get one.

I've just learned that Ebay has been pulling down every PS3 auction that's gone up today as fast they can (still, if you search there's usually a few they haven't gotten yet). There's a crazy rumor that Sony has a deal with Ebay not to allow PS3 sales until a set time after launch, so don't move too quickly.

Oh man...
Thanks for the heads up, man
I'll just wait and see what happens after the release then.

I know its probably too late for me but Im going to check out gamestop.

Actually, NO.

GameStop, my friend.

That's a complete and utter lie. No store had 70 x360s on release day. In fact, one of the SoCal Best Buys (which retains the highest sales out of all american best buys) had 37 sets of 360's total. Something like 17 Premium and 20 Core.

Also, eBay is removing all auctions, and when release comes out, are not allowing any PS3 auction to go for more than an extra 10% face value. That includes shipping, and on a package as large/heavy as a PS3...that's basically nothing.

Okay, maybe I exaggerated a little, but no need to call me a liar.

They had around 45-50 360's.

There were around 50 people in line, and they had plenty there to cover them all.

My mother and I got one pre-ordered. :)

Then we're going to sell it on Ebay :hyper:
