General Arrowverse Discussion

Sadly, by the time Batman 89 came along, the Superman movies were firmly in the toilet, thanks to the Salkinds.

What could have been...

Well that’s what the time machine is for. The original outline for Superman III was ****ing amazing. It would’ve introduced Supergirl, Brainiac, and Bizarro. You can see where they would’ve brought the latter two in, because instead we got evil Superman and that evil super computer.

Superman IV was just awful. If I could change it, I’d love to see Reeve against Mxyzptlk. Throw Luthor and Parasite in there and you’ve got a perfect Superman series.

You can definitely feel the influence of Burton's batman films. Elfmans score, the set design and visuals make it feel like it would fit in the same universe as burton batman.

Mark Hamill's trickster is like the prototype for his joker from batman the animated series
I can totally see the 90's Flash being in the same universe as Burton's Batman or even Reeve's Superman.

What I love about Reeve’s Superman movies vs Burton’s Batman movies is just how completely different the tone and visuals are. The DCAU touched on that as well with BTAS and STAS. It’s so important to show how disparate those two worlds are, and that’s something the DCEU got dead wrong.

I'm telling you guys, DC is not using the animated movies to their full potential. That is the perfect medium to do these "what if?" Scenarios like a Keaton/Reeves Batman/Superman movie. Thats such a perfect thing to do with the animation medium. Go crazy with all of things that wont technically be possible to do in live action.

If by STAS, you mean the Fleischer series, I can see that. If you're talking about the Timm-verse, only Static Shock really stood out as something disparate to the rest of the shows.

Light, bright Metropolis vs dark, grim Gotham.

It’s a no brainer. So why did both look exactly the same in the film?

I didn’t hate the idea of them being right next to each other, but them looking the same was a big mistake. I couldn’t tell the difference between Gotham and Metropolis. It was such a nice visual opportunity for Snyder

This IS my head canon, even if Donner and Burton's visions were different. If Keaton had a Robin you could even call it Super FRIENDS The Movie!!

Elseworlds is packed but hopefully will be good. Hoechlin makes a good Superman so it's nice to see him brought back. Then although we're not getting Batman we're getting the Arrowverse version of his 'world'.

Well after Batman 66 someone pitched Batman 89 which is a pity it was rejected as comic series. People would love it. If the Arrowverse could get Keaton then maybe he could be Beyond-era Bruce Wayne in a time travel story? If they're not allowed any Batman on TV then maybe Terry McGinnis could be on a mission out of town. The funny thing about DC TV and film is usually a Superman or Batman or whoever comes along, does it for a few years then goes, never to be seen again. Granted, Adam West came back a few times and Kevin Conroy pops in and out of the booth every few years, but the DC franchises are quick to move on.

That's why John Wesley Shipp suiting up again is so exciting, I wonder if they're lining up a reunion episode with some of his old castmates? And could this make it possible for other veterans to come back - Brandon Routh, Dean Cain, Teri Hatcher, Helen Slater and others have already appeared in other roles, but nevertheless they could find a way. Especially if Crisis on Infinite Earths is indeed on the cards.

I dont think the CW could ever get Keaton but maybe just maybe they could get him for a voice role as Batman on an animated project. That would be so freaking lit. Keaton loves Batman and is proud of the role so I think he'd be willing to do it.

the Dark Knight is confirmed to be sitting this one out. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, consulting producer Caroline Dries explained why.

According to Dries, the Arrowverse version of Batman has been MIA for years, allowing Gotham City’s crime rate to rise. “Our approach is: What does Gotham look like after the Batman has been gone for three years?” Dries told EW. “So if you have the law and order, protector, and hope gone, what happens as a result? Some people are thriving in his absence because now they can start to do their own thing without the oversight. A lot of other people are suffering and they’re losing hope, and the city itself and infrastructure is falling apart. So it’s not a happy place. Our guys walk into a grimy, scary Gotham.”

Dries’ fellow producer, Marc Guggenheim, explained that the effects of Batman’s disappearance will be felt immediately. He described Gotham’s lawless landscape as “a dead city” and “practically a ghost town.” The crossover’s heroes, meanwhile, will have their own little debate over whether the caped crusader is even real. “Oliver is like, ‘He’s not real! They’ve made him up! It’s a hoax just to scare the citizens.’” said Flash actor Grant Gustin. “Barry is flabbergasted by that and all he wants to do in Gotham is meet Batman. It’s a pretty funny scene.”

They’ve made a lot of progress. It’s cool that they can reference Batman by name now

Can't believe that I'm actually entertaining the possibility now of Batman appearing in the Arrowverse at some point. A year ago I thought it was out of the question.

We live in a crazy time. Joaquin Phoenix is The Joker. The X-Men and Spider-Man are coming to or in the MCU. Anything's possible.
With Gotham coming to an end, I predict that Batman will show up in Batwoman. Possibly the second season just like how Superman appeared in s2 of Supergirl.

Yes, the Batwoman show would seem the logical place to introduce him.

Personal preference, but if Batman pops up in a show, I hope it's Titans. The Robin dynamic in that show they built within one Episode was awesome. But hey, Batman in the Arrowverse would still be awesome. Should have saved Sam Witwer for it... :o

Hopefully that would spawn a Batman TV series... so many villains we never see on film they could do in a TV series.

I can't see them doing a Batman series but I'd love it. There's room for Batman in both Titans and Arrowverse. If not then Bruce.

Sorry to sound dumb lol but how?

John Wesley Shipp's line seems to be a big giveaway about his role in the story

I feel like we've needed a place for us to discuss the Arrowverse in general for a while. We have individual discussions for the different shows, but here we can talk about characters we would like to be introduced into the Arrowverse, the crossover events, and the general direction we would like this universe to go in.

I personally think the film side should give the Arrowverse more free reign to do what they want to do, as they have arguably been more successful with their adaptations of DC characters than the DCEU.

Once Flash and Arrow have run their course, I would love to see a CW Justice League series. Hopefully now that Cavill is out, WB will allow the CW to utilize the fantastic Tyler Hoechlin as Superman a bit more.

Also, it's about time for them to utilize the Green Lantern Corps. It's long overdue.
I’d personally like to see them introduce more lesser known characters like Blue Beetle or Booster Gold. Both could be a lot of fun.
