The Force Awakens George Lucas Appreciation Thread

I probably found it insulting cos he's waving the feminism banner around too much. He's not Goyer/Snyder, but I don't think he's doing much on that front, either.
But Snyder made Sucker Punch. :o

People can fall in love 20 years apart Snow, it is okay. :funny:

I know they can, and in real life, whatever, but this wasn't some naturally occurring relationship between people, someone made it happen. Maybe if they had some chemistry, but... And then Bond had to go and do it again, I hear. :o

Ι wish I could skype you.
I don't need to see this from you:

Yeah TPM is at the very least a good looking film. JW looked like crap

Yeah, despite the 16 year difference the CGI was way better.

Not one person in this thread with a straight face, can tell me that JW looks worse then AotC, which looks shot on a ****ing iPhone, and is so bad, the blu ray release looks like someone waxed it. :funny:

And I dislike the look of JW for the most part, but the night scenes are quite nice imo.

Straight faced: AOTC looks better than JW. They both looked like they where shot on an iPhone. But AOCT blended in the effects better and eployed some good handheld camera shots to suit it's digital look.

Well Keira is actually younger then Scarlett and I though her and Ruffalo were pretty adorable in Begin Again. So my problem here would be the lack of chemistry and really crappy writing. Just like SPECTRE.

That much I'll agree on. Granted, he did a lot for the cause over a decade ago, but his work since then has gone downhill on that front and he still acts like he's leading the charge. He needs to take it down a couple pegs and get back to what he does best.

Blended the effects better? When is the last time you saw the arena or factory scene?

The raptor scene is art compared to AotC.

You mean fire a woman for getting pregnant? :oldrazz:

Write smart-ass one liners that he tries to pass for actual drama?

Did you watch Buffy as well? :cwink:

Joss was incredible those first 5 seasons of Buffy. Even his missteps were better then everyone else A game outside of the Sopranos. But he hasn't been the same since Firefly got canned.

I can say with a good certainty that while I consider both of them to be ****, the sequences on Kamino were superior to anything I saw in JW. I hate both films, violently so, but I do think that sequence > JW's visuals.

I much prefer that approach to pasting them on real locations. It distracted me a lot less. Obviously the TFA approach with better blending is for the best. But I'd definitely chose an animated shot over crap blending.

Yeah something tells me you didn't watch much Buffy if that's what you think he does. That show knows pain and drama like few others.

Imma be honest, I'm only judging cinematic Whedon. I don't know anything about TV Whedon.

Is his writing in Firefly on par with his Buffy?

No, imo. The brilliance of Buffy was all about the metaphors, and how they related to coming-of-age. Whedon the TV showrunner was a big-time existentialist. And atheist. His explorations of human nature, religion, nihilism and depression throughout Buffy and Angel hit home and left impressions like few shows ever have, imo. When you see Buffy walking around as an actual shell of her former self just pretending to be a normal, feeling person after she's been exiled from Heaven by her own loved ones when they selfishly raised her from the dead, you WISH they'd get back to telling more jokes. With each year, as Buffy matured, so did her problems. When real world problems (beyond boyfriends and "high school" problems) started to creep into her supernatural issues after she moved out and started college, the show took on a whole other level of pathos and gravitas. Season 5, Whedon's final planned season, was the epitome of this, imo.

Nah, it just had the best long-term arcs. Buffy had more standout individual episodes and epic character arcs, but Angel had equally great character arcs and ran the long game with the story arcs. And that's also where Joss painted his atheist worldview in a more optimistic light, ultimately.

Angel is odd, because I feel like it didn't hit its stride until it final season. Season 1 had to start twice, and felt a lot like a spin off after Doyle's exit. Season 2 once again had that spin off feel imo, until the crazy fun final arc. Season 3 was great imo, and then Connor and dark Wesley happened. Season 4 was a pretty big disaster imo, and Joss basically destroyed his feminist cred with what he did to Carpenter and Cordelia. But Season 5 felt like the show finally figured out what it could do right and I thought it was terrific. Of course then they cancelled it.
