A Florida woman inadvertently killed her boyfriend when she "playfully" shot him with a gun she wasn't aware had been loaded.
Justin Holt, 22, and his girlfriend Erin Steele, 20, were visiting a friend this past Sunday when another friend arrived with a pistol that was passed around the group.
Authorities in Boca Raton say the four had spent the day "dry firing" the empty gun at each other before moving on to other things.
At some point, the gun's owner, Joshua Henry, loaded the gun and set it on a counter.
Steele, unaware the gun had been loaded by Henry, picked it up and resumed the "game" by pointing the weapon at Holt's chest and firing it.
Holt was rushed to the Delray Medical Center around 11 p.m., but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Holt's family, who knew Steele well, called the incident and accident and said they did not harbor ill-will towards her.
"We have a lot of compassion for her because she's got to live with that, no matter what she does, for the rest of her life," Holt's grandfather told the Sun-Sentinel.
Police have yet to charge anyone with a crime, but their investigation continues.

First thing they taught me in gun safety was never to point the gun at anything you don't intend to kill

She shouldn't have aimed it at him, but why did the pistol-owner randomly decide at some point to load the gun?

I just live here I have no idea why FL is so crazy, it is amusing though.

Wow, and the award to the best girlfriend goes to either this girl, or that one girlfriend who bit her bf's package off.

it's beyond negligient for the gun owner to have let a loaded weapon sit on the counter. the owner would, presumably, have seen them "dry firing" at one another; earlier in the day.

if this were an episode of Law&Order, you'd find out that this was a plan between the girlfriend and gun owner to 'accidentally' dispose of the middle-man.

Never play around with firearms because something unfortunate might happen, much like this incident.

I can't say my friends and I ever spent a lazy afternoon "playfully" dry-firing a gun at each other.

But yea, why did one of them think, considering their "game", that it was a great idea to load the gun at some point?

"My friends and I love passing around a gun and firing it at each other, so I'm gonna put actual bullets in it. Surely nothing could go awry".

I would half-suspect he was orchestrating someone's "accidental" death, except I don't think any of these people are that smart.

I laughed when I read the title of this thread and then instantly felt ashamed. :lmao: :csad: :lmao:

People are so damned stupid. Why wasn't the safety on, at the very least? They shouldn't have been "shooting" at each other with a real gun in the first place, though. Young and dumb as **** about covers it.

Precisely. Foolish things like this are terrible tragedies, made even worse because it gives more fuel to those who wish to do away with the Second Amendment. I can't imagine how this woman must be feeling right now; she needs love and prayer like crazy, not condemnation or ridicule.

When shooting someone, remember to keep it light... Be playful.

Goes without saying I feel bad about the life lost, but that poor girl is psychologically destroyed now. I wouldn't be surprised If she took her own life from the guilt. Yes, she was being ridiculously irresponsible, but people don't always think. She should have checked the barrel, but if she hasn't been around guns much and doesn't have the practice of checking the barrel instilled in her she's not gonna do it especially after watching her friends be so cavalier with the gun. I've been around people who don't even know how a magazine works let alone how the slide works. Those type of people just don't think "check the chamber". And its because of that I put the blame on the people around her who do know how a gun works. If I see someone pick up a gun I remind them to check the chamber, to keep their finger off the trigger, and I watch them like a hawk until they put it down. Whoever started their little game needs their ass kicked, but I'd say losing a friend and watching another friend be psychologically ruined will be enough punishment.

I usually hear 14 years old or younger playing with guns, but adults do that without checking at least the safety being on or the gun is unloaded..
What a world, what a world

Why the hell did the guy load the gun?

Sounds like he wanted something like that to happen.
