Godzilla (2014)

That's what the press wanted you to believe. I actually had to fake my death in the mid-nineties and go into hiding for a few years because of all the damage my radiation addiction caused. It was a cover up to hide my stint in rehab. Of course I did have to get several face and body lifts to throw people off for a few years.

Was height reduction really necessary though?

I know, I know, that was a little excessive but my agent thought it was a good idea at the time for my career and I listened to him. That'll teach me to feel sorry for King Ghidorah after the embarrassment of GMK where I beat him three times in one movie and hire him as my adviser.

Well, that and I was told to lay off the steroids.

That suit does look pretty neat. For being made on what was probably a small budget, it came out well.

Juuuuuuust gott shave off those ears.

He gets to off road on an ATV for the first time ever. Wouldn't you be happy?

Anyone going to watch Godzilla: King of the Monsters tomorrow on TCM? (6:45 EST) I'm gonna catch it, I do enjoy the film very much despite it not being as potent as Gojira itself.

I move that ATV Godzilla be inserted into every movie and television show from now to the end of time.

Because some people are (already) doing this, I've decided to do a Godzilla marathon. However, I want it to be specific, let's say, and more of a mini marathon of sorts. As it stands now; I think if I start this Monday before the release, which would be Thursday night (that's how my theatre has been doing this so far this year), I have three Godzilla movie nights. I've decided that those movies will be the Godzilla movies with "Godzilla" being the only word in the title, counting original titles. So the list would be: Godzilla (1954) because I love the original and why not start with it, Return of Godzilla (1984) because the original title was Godzilla in Japan, and Godzilla (1998) because that was the last American Godzilla, and I still have memories of when I saw it May 19th, 1998. If I can include Sunday, and if Thursday won't have any showings (very doubtful), then I'll add 1-2 more Godzilla films, like GMK and/or Final Wars. Though one other idea I had was to see one Godzilla film I like from each decade.

Still up in the air, but hey, I have til May. What do you guys think?

Because I'm a massive nerd, I'm just going through each movie. Tomorrow night, Godzilla vs Megalon is next on my list. Dear God....

I'd go one film from each decade.

That seems to be the better idea, if not alternative idea. The problem is which is the one better movie when it comes to the 60s-80s, and 2000s. Thinking of the '70s, I think Godzilla vs The Smog Monster would be the "better" movie, because I don't care for the Godzilla films in the '70s, but at least that's tolerable.

And just so you know...there is an extra on the list with this decades, and will be in this list regardless of what direction I take, and that is the '98 film. I will see that movie no matter what.

I guess that means you saw..."sigh"...Godzilla's Revenge.

Well 60s...I suppose Godzilla vs King Kong, or one of the early Ghidorah ones.

80s...probably go with Return of Godzilla.

2000s is the hardest one since they're all pretty weird.

for the 2000's, i would recommend Godzilla 2000: Millennium, or Godzilla vs Megaguirius

Godzilla's Revenge was a.....jarring experience.

I think of this from Godzillathon:
"Godzilla's Revenge. Who the hell did he get revenge on?"

Have you seen Godzillathon from Cinemassacre.com? Its by James Rolfe who is known as The Angry Video Game Nerd. He did a great job concerning the Godzilla films, having each episode/segment be about each film.

King Kong works, but there is Destroy All Monsters from 1969; still '60s.
Return of Godzilla makes sense because I like that movie (the original Japanese version, which I have), but Biollante is a movie I haven't seen in years, and is also a movie I really want to see again because of what it is.

As for 2000s; for me, they weren't weird, its just that half were bad and half were good. And two of those good ones are really good, for various depending reasons, and those films are the ones I mentioned in the previous posts: GMK and Final Wars. Part of me wants Final Wars on the list, because it was the last Godzilla movie before the 2014 film, and because that movie is pretty hardcore with the action scenes from the monsters AND the humans. But that's just me.

My marathon doesn't consist of just Godzilla movies. I've/I'll throw in movies like War of the Gargantuas, Mothra/Rebirth of Mothra trilogy, Rodan, King Kong(original and 2005 remake), Gamera trilogy, Gareth Edwards' Monsters, and Pacific Rim.

Godzillathon wasn't an actual marathon of the movies, but had segments focusing on each film each were 5-10 mins.

BTW, how is Gareth Edwards' Monsters?

It's been a while since I've seen it, but Monsters is an excellent film. It raises many important societal questions on how we would react if we were to be "invaded" or come in first contact. Basically, I think we're in great hands.

The 2000s for me were the Godzilla equivalent of the Pierce Brosnan Bond films. They were very uneven for me, and the lack of continuity didn't really help much. But GMK is a pretty good film, even if it is extremely out there for the franchise formula.

GMK is easily the best out of the Millennium Series IMO. And I like Final Wars for what it's trying to be.

That lack of canon isn't really a problem, because each film in the Millennium series were stand alone films, with the exception of the Mechagodzilla ones. And while they have said those films are either direct sequels to, or use it as a jumping off point, the original 1954 one; only two films references that movie to give a strong connection: GMK and GxMG. 2000, GxM, and Final Wars are pretty stand alone, and don't require even the first film. BTW, just in case its brought up; while GxM uses footage from 1954, with the insertion of that film's suit, its not canon because the events are different and Godzilla didn't die.
