I liked a lot of things about this movie, but the way it created suspense and atmospheres, was mindblowing. There are some shots, specially later in the big fight scene, that look almost surreal. And how they used the silences and incorporated the music, almost every technical aspect was a masterclass in filmmaking.

These incessant comparisons to Alien and Jaws don't make any sense.

The MUTOs are the antagonists in Godzilla, as the xenomorph is in Alien or the shark in Jaws, and they get plenty of screentime, far more than Godzilla.

Godzilla's role in the movie is NOTHING like the xenomorph or the shark.

King of the Monsters, or Savior of the City?

we get godzilla in his whole glory living from ancient times and puny humans tried to eliminate it with nuclear crap but he comes back and save their ass making them rethink about their motives and a restoring hope for humanity in that process .
goji is like the superman of his world .

 Godzilla is the hero in his movie, he should have had screen-time akin to Ripley or Brody if you wanna compare to those movies.

Eh, I love Godzilla because I grew up on it, but there's only three or four Godzilla movies I would actually recommend to normal people.

Sigh.....I ordered my copy from BestBuy online last week and it's already on its way and I just realized...I ordered the DVD version instead of the blu ray. On BB's website, the DVD version says it has "Blu-Ray/DVD/ and Ultraviolet" but it's 2 bucks less than the real "Blu Ray/DVD/ Ultraviolet" version. Sigh... #firstworldproblems.

Then the spectacle becomes mindless action like Buttformers

Transformers 1 is the only movie out of the franchise that I really dug. I wasn't crazy about Age of Extinction or Godzilla 2014 but if I really had to watch one of them again it would be age of extinction ( and that's saying something considering I didn't like it all that much). At least with that TF movie they don't mislead you with the transformers action or screen time. Even though the human characters in Bay's TF movies are meh, Mark Walhberg is way more in watchable than Johnson in Godzilla.

I seriously thought this Godzilla movie was gonna be a awesome giant monster show down movie. With a decent story and characters. Instead this movie kills off the most interesting human character in the first 15 mins. We spend the rest of the time following Johnson and his boring quest to get back to his equally boring wife and kid. This is the most disappointing movie of the year for me. It's crazy how the trailers made this movie seem epic and it wasn't.

I agree and those movies were the first of series of movies, and this Godzilla is like what 23rd 24th movie? So, if were gonna compare let's compare the original Godzilla.

Yes I certainly hope that Johnson & Olsen will be more interesting as brother & sister in Avengers 2 than they were as husband & wife in Godzilla.

29th or 30th, depending on how you count (most say 29th).

Does anyone else have a very very dark picture quality on their bluray mine gets so dark during the night scenes I can barely see anything

Its mostly the way that it was shot. Try cranking up the brightness level of your tv & see if that helps any.

It's a very big complaint over at tohokingdom, apparently the transfer to DVD and Blu-Ray came out quite a bit darker than the movie.

It reminds me of the Hulk vs. dogs fight scene in Hulk. You really can't see a damn thing.

^ Really? I've always been able understand & see everything that's going on. If you really, really want a movie where everything is hard to see, try Aliens vs Predator: Requiem where 89-90% of the action in the movie was too dark to make out what it was.

I have to adjust the brightness for both of those.

Watched Godzilla last night, didn't have a problem with it being too dark.
