Action-Adventure Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

9 Million to go Domestically and 10 Million to go for WW.

Let's see if they'll give it another week in theatres.

I don't know what the dailies are looking like for this now. But if it gets another week, say anything up to $1m Mon-Thurs and maybe another $1.5m - $2m for next weekend.

I think the domestic will end up just agonisingly short but it should have enough WW to get it to top spot in one more weekend.

I just saw this and I was confused the entire time.

- King Kong is old and needed a dentist and a mech arm
- Mini Kong is King Kong's sidekick
- The human girl is connected to the hollow world and the 3 monsters
- Hollow world looks like a videogame
- There's a human civilization in the hollow world and only communicate through telepathy
- The "Scarred King" holds a grudge against Godzilla and uses Frozen Godzilla as a weapon
- While all of those are happening, Godzilla in the surface world, is full of energy, beating monsters and destroying ancient landmarks...
- They also completely destroyed Brazil in the climax

I felt like I have missed a lot in the past, when I've seen the previous 4 movies. The only one I haven't seen is Monarch the tv show. The entire movie was information overload. The visual effects looked pretty bad. The human characters were annoying, especially the one from Eternals, who was useless. The entire movie was too much and it needed more time. It was absolutely ridiculous.

-They gave him the Mech Glove because he got Frostbite from Shimo
-Yes
-Connect to Kong and Mothra
-Pretty much yeah
-Correct
-Skar King got his ass kicked by Goji back in the day and buried. He enslaved Shimo the Ice Titan.
-Godzilla is on a training quest to gather energy to fight Skar King & Shimo
-Rio did get a fair amount of property damage yes.

Looks like Regal has tickets through the 22nd. Looks like its got one more weekend to close in on the Domestic run.

My wallet....

Tamashii Nations bringing out the rest of the GxK crew. I dread Shimu's price.

This is now at $561m after a $1.7m domestic weekend. Haven't seen overseas numbers yet.

What did it need to become the highest grossing MV film?

$7 million to pass KSI to be the #1 WW
$6.2 million to pass G14 to be the #1 Domestically
$34 Million to pass KSI to be the #1 Internationally

Aw man little disappointed with that. I wonder was it because of the critical reception?

Hope either Dougherty or Vogt-Roberts come back.

Scheduling maybe?
Vogt-Roberts would be welcome back any time!

The Hollywood Reporter article states “The parting of ways is described as amicable and stemming from timing issues. The door remains open for a future return, per insiders”

Sucks for Adam cause I’ve enjoyed what he’s done. But I’ve also enjoyed what each director in the Monsterverse has done as well. Would love Dougherty back but probably won’t happen. Either way curious to see who they’ll bring in next.

Was initially surprised given how successful it was, but given the timing issues, that's understandable. On the bright side, I hope that means Junkie XL doesn't end up returning because sans what he said about the use of AI in music, he's been the weakest composer in the franchise so far.

I just hope whatever happens that Godzilla is featured more prominently in the next one.

Rewatching KOTM, which is still the best in the series IMO, and the score is absolutely perfection. The theme, the epicness of it, how Doughtery uses the Heisei era Godzilla roar mixed into the modern one, everything about it makes my heart full.

Is it perfect? No. I still think Godzilla 2014 is the best SHOT movie with its sense of scale and awe which the series has been lacking the last two movies, but KOTM makes the little boy who loved and still loves the Heisei era happy.

I would love nothing more than Bear McCreary to return.

I hope they get a good director for GxK 3. I've seen people on Twitter bring up Colin Trevorrow and I'm just like... no, please no.

He's incredibly flaky with his projects, but with Pacific Rim being another favorite of mine, I'd love to see Guillermo del Toro tackle Godzilla.

Del Toro would be a godsend, but I don't think it's very likely to happen right now.

Del Toro would be better suited to his own one-shot Godzilla film separate from the Monsterverse IMO. I'd love to see it, but I would love to see his vision in its truest form and not having to be weighed down by the "Canon" of the other films.

I would very much like to see Doughtery get another shot, but I don't think Legendary will go in that direction.
