I've been invited to a wedding and on the invitation was a request for 3 Songs that we would like to hear played. I want "wedding appropriate" dance tunes that don't involve the Bird Dance or the Bunny Hop or any other line dances... Any suggestions?

Queen "Another one bites the dust" :p

Every wedding I've ever been to has played "YMCA" (a song I normally loathe) at the reception, but for whatever reason that song seems to get EVERYONE up and dancing and having a great time.

Here are a few:

I Just Can't Get Enough
Get Down Tonight
(I Like to) Move It
The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)
Dollar Wine

Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones

Billy Idol White wedding :p

Or Motor Head Ace of spades

Total Eclipse of the Heart - Dan Band
More than a Feeling- Boston
Closer - Nine Inch Nails (Ok not this one.......)

If you want some really good dance music, I suggest digging deep into the 1970s' disco catalogue:

Some 50s' - 60s' oldies:

Rock Around The Clock – Bill Haley And The Comets

La Bamba – Richie Valens
A medley of old Elvis tunes
The Twist – Chubby Checker
Any classic Motown tunes (The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops)

Sadly, I don't know much about 90s' dance music, but this should have you covered.

Amazed - Lonestar

Those are the two songs from my wedding Red...

 Great pick, these folk were teenagers in the 80's so that suits well and I know that he likes Boston.

Isn't there a standard list of crappy dance songs that you must play at every wedding. I didn't think you could deviate for the list that includes such classics as the Electric Slide, the Chicken Song, YMCA, Who let the Dogs Out, the Macarana, etc...

Most DJ's have standards that they bring because they know SOMEONE will ask for those songs... However, a good way to avoid this is to provide the DJ with a list of songs you would like to hear and songs that they MUST not play. When Hubby and I got married I had one song on my ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT PLAY list... "Achy Breaky Heart".

We told them, we will kill you if we hear the Duck Song

dude... you make me want to SHOUT!!!

that is THE wedding song.

We're not going to take it - Twisted Sister

Down with the sickness comes to mind
