A discussion about JMS and how he had great dialogue but terrible ideas made me want to ask this of everyone:

We all have the things we don't like about Spider-Man but how about the good ideas? What things have been done that you've really liked about for the progression of Peter Parker or Spider-Man? This can be something that's been undone obviously, and I'm talking about concrete things not something intangible like "it's more fun now". And rather than starting from the past and working up let's start at the present and work backwards, see what most people think were steps in the right direction for the character.

So to start off....Big Time. What's been the points of it you've really liked?

Peter's current job and the fact that they are actually showing that he can match wits with the best scientists in the Marvel U.

I do like his new supporting work people. I also like JJJJr as the mayor though I think they could make him less a one trick anti-spider-man pony.

Aloha,'
Agreed. Which is why even though they were great in their own right. Sam Raimi taking the attitude that he couldn't sell the idea of Peter being able to come up with an adhesive 3M couldn't, will always be a slap in the face to the essential Spider-Man mythos. Peter Parker is a genius.
Spidey rules

One thing I love now, that I wanted to see since my days of playing Marvel Super Heroes in the arcade, was the fighting skill improvement. I always thought with the agility, spidey sense, and speed, he could be a dangerous contender. I know wits and such have saved ol Pete back in the day, but sometimes you need to clobber a guy really hard and get some breathing room. I really hope he keeps the Way of the Spider, I mean Sue Storm ages ago got help from Rand to up her skills, so I always thought that Spidey should have done something like that to better prepare for intense spur of the moment threats that somehow make his basic skills useless.

The job mobility and interactions with a more varied cast a a really good touch. I hope now that the major arcs are over we get to see Pete build closer relationships with his buddies at work, it's been a while since they've been really featured.

The showing off his smarts has been a huge treat, I actually feel like Spidey is moving forward and capturing more of his potential.

Ok, so now we have his acting smarter, having a better job and improved fighting abilities for Peter.

One nod to the more varied cast. Anything else from big time?

I pretty much agree with everyone else's assessment, other than the whole new job thing (happened ten years ago with Tricorp, not exactly new or original). I definitely think the best of the bunch is his new fighting skills, that's a pretty good idea and it's about time something like that happened.
As for things not discussed already, I like the modification's Pete has made to his wardrobe. Voice activated web shooters, cell phone thingy right on the ear of his mask, not to mention the other costume's he's made for himself. I'm a big fan of those.
