Goofyness Factor: Level of silly monkey business in this film

Man, this is GI JOE!! it's an elite special forces team that employs a goddamn ninja, for cryin' out loud people!! While I doubt the film will be overtly silly or goofy, let's face it, we're not dealing with something completely grounded in reality!

I totally know what you are sayin' believe me--but it's like this....yes it is an elite special forces unit that employs a ninja, yes the teams battle cry is 'YOOOOOOO JOOOOOOOE!!!! and yes the main villain has a lisp that sounds like a snake and the organization he happens to run is called 'Cobra' and there are twins named Xamot and Tomax who feel each others pain and ...well I could go on..

but if you were to look it all with that logic then before ANYTHING from the Dark Knight came out you could have said 'Oh well....it's a multi billionaire playboy by day and a ...guy who wears a cape....and boots...with a bat mask on....and he calls himself......Batman....and he fights a villain who puts clown make up on and has a really over the top laughing problem...and his name is.....the Joker.

So what I am saying is YES there are a ton of stuff you rip into and potentially just turn it all into a **** show of epic proportions like Snake Eyes coming into the room with a giant party hat on going 'Ta Daaaa!!! I'm a ninja I'm a ninja do-do-do-doooo!!!' and then Storm Shadow comes in and bonks Snake Eyes with a rubber mallet and quips "He's not the ONLY ninja around here!" and winks at the screen and the scene fades to black with a "BOOOOOOINNNNG!!!".....

Now although I don't think the goofyness will be to that same extent but, this Sommers guy has a track record for some corny crap and it'd just be nice to have this material treated with some respect that's all. Like I said I just hope the jokes aren't eye rollingly bad thats all

I think the silliness will fall somewhere between The Mummy and Battlefield Earth on the poll. I'd say around the level of The Mummy 2.

There's no reason to believe there will be that level of cheese. The script does not contain it. This is an adventure, but not a silly one. It has many serious elements.

Well just let it be that, and stop speculating on whether or not Sommers is gonna break out whoopie cushions are something!

It could have been. But it's clearly a role written for a similar actor. He was cast because Ripcord in the script is a legimate "good guy" with charm, and that's what the role calls for.

I'm still waiting for someone to point out the overt goofiness.
