Dr. Kovac's heading from the emergency room to the courtroom.
A Croatian woman has slapped a paternity suit on Goran Visnjic, alleging the ER hunk fathered her four-month-old daughter.
The suit, filed in Croatia on behalf of 36-year-old Mirela Rupic, claims the 34-year-old actor refused to acknowledge his paternal role and is asking for a DNA test to prove he needs to take responsibility.
Rupic's attorney, Nenad Skare, told the Associated Press his client had hoped to reach a settlement with Visnjic, but he turned them down.
Visnjic's publicist could not be reached for comment.
In an interview with Croatia's Jutarnji List newspaper last week, Rupic alleged that the TV star "knew about my pregnancy from the start" and had promised to provide financial support but would never acknowledge her as his own, forcing Rupic to court in search of a legal remedy.
One of Croatia's most famous cultural exports, Visnjic is in his eighth season as County General's soulful Dr. Luka Kovac. In 1999, the same year he joined NBC's stalwart hospital drama, he married sculptor Ivana Vrdoljak, with whom he has an adopted baby boy named Tin, born in April. The couple reside in Los Angeles.
The actor, who's also an animal-rights activist, first gained the attention of Hollywood with a role in Michael Winterbottom's 1997 war drama Welcome to Sarajevo. His major movie credits include Practical Magic with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, Rounders with Matt Damon and Edward Norton, Elektra with Jennifer Garner and the thriller The Deep End with Tilda Swinton.
Visnjic also lent his voice to the saber-toothed cat Soto in the 2002 animated hit Ice Age, and he is rumored to have a part in the upcoming James Bond flick.
