Gore Verbinski Directs Bio-Shock

Why is Kurt Wimmer directing Metal Gear Solid a good thing? And don't talk about Equilibrium the most fanboy overrated movie of the decade.

It could be the first truely great video game adaptation. If the man can turn a theme park ride into a multibillion dollar franchise, I can't wait to see what he does with something that already has a story as strong as Bioshocks.

And if it is amazing, then it would maybe open the door for amazing Halo and gears of war films :wow:

I'd give Batman Begins the most fanboy overrated movie award

He's a great director, he's just not a very good writer. He got lucky with Equilibrium, but if Ultra Violet is any type of measuring stick, he should never be allowed to put pen to paper again.

To answer your question Kurt Willmer directing a MGS movie wouldn't be a good thing. After the first watching, Equilibrium doesn't hold up the way it should and Ultra Violet is one of the worse movies ever made.

And I also Agree that BB has to be the most overrated fanboy pic ever. But ultra serious always equals kewl to fanboys so thats not a shocker. Nevermind that terrible 3rd act.

definitely to a degree overrated but I wouldn't say its the most overrated , most people I talk to say it has to many flaws to be great but still good.

I kinda agree, while it is definitely a good film it did get a bit too much praise for what it is with some questionable casting choices, a **** Bat-car (no Batmoblie substitute), some laughable dialouge at times, really poor & underused villians (though both were both great at playing those roles) & an extremely unsatisfying finale.

Anyway enough about other movies I think Bioshock is going to be possibly the first video game adaption along with Prince of Persia to be any good with some big guns behind the films & I'm guessing a pretty decent budget.

If that happened I'd be totally cool with that because he is a filmmaker and not a CGI overloving, quick cutting dolt. That choice would be a 1000 percent better. The only hang up for me would be if he treats the movie uber seriously. Now don't get me wrong I know it's supposed to be very serious but an element of fantasy (giant robot) is envolved. I don't want another Hulk.

I'm shocked that he'd be interested. I would be the happiest man alive should he decide to take on the adaptation.

I think I know where you are coming from but explain please?

MGS just doesn't seem like the type of material that Paul Thomas Anderson has been successful with. There Will Be Blood, Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, Boogie Nights...Metal Gear Solid?

I would think that Konami would want a director more experienced in the action department. I mean, I'm sure P.T. Anderson could do a great MGS movie, it just seems a little out of left field.

The screenwriter who along with Burton successfully adapted Sweeney Todd into a film (NO EASY TASK, believe me) and worked on the screenplays for Gladiator and The Aviator as well?

Directed by the guy who did The Ring, Weather Man and most impressive the first Pirates movie (the sequels I blame on a bad screenplay and a greedy studio. They were decently directed for movies with no plots or depth).

Intriguing. I will approach this cautiously, but I too agree this could be the first good video game film.

Yeah, yeah. So was the director of Evil Dead doing Spider-Man, the director of Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil doing X-Men, the director of Memento doing Batman, the director of Elf doing Iron Man and the director of Dead Alive and The Frightners doing Lord of the Rings.

All I can say is that that choice for MGS is inspired and completely blew me away.

1. Evil Dead was throw-away fun, so was Spider-Man
2. The Usual Suspects was a great ensemble movie, so was X-Men
3. Memento and Insomnia were both darker, more cerebral films, which is exactly what the reboot of Batman needed

Favreau and Jackson genuinely surprised me, although both had passion for the source material they were adapting. Unless Anderson comes out and says he's been an MGS fanboy for years, I'm going to wonder if this is a smart move.

Plus, if he Paul Thomas Anderson-izes MGS, all the gamer fanboys are going to be pissed.

no they meant Paul Thomas Anderson the anti-thesis of Paul W.S. Anderson. it was a direct quote from Konami..

I would fully support this movie if they get Gerard Butler to play Fontaine

You see, now this is what I'm talking about, but MGS movie will NOT be directed by PTA according to collider:

While I was flying back to Los Angeles tonight, it seems a crazy rumor hit cyberspace. What was it? How about Paul Thomas Anderson (“There Will Be Blood,” Boogie Nights,” “Magnolia”) might be directing the “Metal Gear Solid” movie!

It seems the story originated on Kotaku, as they were at a press conference for the upcoming “Metal Gear” game and Konami's Aki Saito (who is handling the film negotiations) mentioned that Paul was interested.

Immediately, a number of sites picked up the rumor. Most wondered if he meant to say Paul W.S. Anderson. You know him…he makes movies that aren’t as good...

Anyway, whatever Konami's Aki Saito meant to say is irrelevant, as I’ve emailed someone involved with the upcoming movie and they said the rumor about Paul Thomas Anderson is “completely false and ridiculous.”

So there you have it. Sorry to be the one that puts the rumor to bed…as I love Paul’s work and would absolutely pay to see what he’d do with the material.

So, this movie will FAIL. I'm not watching it. They have bastardized my favourite franchise fk this.

isn't this the Bioshock movie thread? If people wanna talk about MGS go find the MGS thread or make one.

I just started playing the game. A movie sounds like it could be fun, but how long is the game?
