Guardians of the Galaxy GOTG: Spoiler Talk

When the Guardians get to the Collector he opens up the orb and reveals the Infinity Gem he goes on to explain to the Guardians about the stones. If memory serves I believe the Collector explains that before the universe began there were 6 elements/forces/powers and when the universe came to life they were scattered across the universe and they turned into stones that each possessed great power, in the footage that is shown by the collector you can see the stones like the Tesseract. We then see a Celestial on a planet wielding the Purple Stone from GotG and as he touches the planet with his staff (that holds the gem) the planet is destroyed.

Then... stuff happens.

Alright, cool.

What song plays during the opening when Quill's mom dies?

In McWeeny's review he says

... there's a scene in the middle of the movie that suddenly drops perhaps the single biggest puzzle piece in the overall Marvel movie universe into place, offering up a connective perspective that should allow even the most casual of viewers to suddenly understand the bigger picture a little better, but there's no denying that it is a familiar shape for these films.

Can someone elaborate on this?

Maybe when The Collector is explaining the history of the Infinity Stones.

I know there'll be an Easter egg thread later in the week, but for now can anyone list what they remember?

Spoilers for safety on Easter eggs:

- There is a Chitauri in The Collector's collection
- Cosmo is in the collection. He looks exactly as he does in the comics
- We see a full Celestial at one point
- We see the origin of the Infinity gems and we see some brief visuals of their later appearances as the Aether and the Tesseract, none of the current forms of the others though.
- Nathan Fillion is the giant brute that gets his nostrils violated by Groot in prison
- There is a Kree ambassador that briefly appears that is played by Tomas Arana
- Christopher Fairbank, the kooky scientist from The Fifth Element who rebuilds Leeloo's body has a featured role in the film.
- Ronan's minions are not Kree but actually Sakaarans. Their ships are called Necrocrafts.
- Peter Serafinowicz, longtime character actor from Shaun of the Dead, Look Around You, Spaced, voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars, plays Garthan Saal, previously Nova Omega in the comics.

Once again, does Star-Lord have his Element Gun in this movie?

Sorry I missed you asking this before! I saw someone already replied but he definitely uses them in the movie. He carries two that look the same and fires off with it a few times. If I remember correctly he has to use them within the first 15 minutes or so.

Sucks to hear about the final Ronan-Starlord confrontation. I just hope the scene's dialogue is managable unlike the Malekith-Thor showdown in TDW. It was awkward as hell.

Like The Avengers could have used Skrulls, but was to hard to impelemnt them in. I hope they there are more Kree and didn't just use Sakaarans as a replacement.

So I am guessing (I should know) that stones is just a title and doesn't refer to to stones we know of, right?

Are we definitely told what stones are what from the ones we've seen?

What is the Tesseract? The Aether?

Orb - Power Stone
Cosmic Cube - Space Stone

Yea i've never liked that idea. Why would Thanos give one Infinity Stone away to get another? I think it was just a weapon he gave Loki to aid him in getting the Tesseract.

What does the Celestial look like? Is he as big as the comics?

And when you say he reveals the gem in the orb...is there a gem? Is it shown as a gem? What are we referring to the gems as? Stones? Or were they gems first?

Does the Celestial look like a biological being?? Or is it a giant thing of armor?

It looks like the Celestial Exitar. Towering over the humans it destroys. From what I remember it had a huge axe/hammer-like thing in it's hand.

If you google Tiamut (The Dreaming Celestial) it looked very much like that.

And yeah the orb (as seen in the trailers) houses a glowing purple stone. They are all referred to as stones in the MCU, gem is purely a slip of the tongue from me as a comic reader.

Yeah you could totally be right. I need to step my Celestial game up a notch because I don't know much about them. Lol

What about it?

Celestial looked like a big giant Jack Kirby suit of armor character.

His face had some Kirby style circles. Looked literally like a piece of Jack Kirby artwork come to life.

FYI, you are all wrong on what Celestial he looked like. He appeared to be this one, Eson the Searcher. Sort of a rounded helm with circles on the face plate. He was black with yellow trim instead of the reddish tint though.

Here he is:

ah cool thank
