GOTHAM: The Web Series [Official Discussion Thread]

Hello. It might interest the community to know that there is something new on the horizon. I am the writer and director of an up-and-coming live action series of webisodes that will be making its debut next year. It will be very episodic in nature, with each chapter connecting with the others as one continuous epic (a reflection of the comic books).

The script for the first chapter, which is essentially an origin story, has gone through a number of drafts, and last month, I was able to produce a shooting script. At this point, I'm gathering all of my resources together and looking forward to casting.

I'm looking to turn ink and paper into flesh and blood with a very high quality series, complete with veteran actors, spectacular locations, and finely detailed costumes and gadgets. Of course, the most critical aspect is the story, and I've worked very hard to fabricate a very real, very emotional world.

Some shots of my shooting locations can be seen below:

Looks like you've got something there. Love to help if you need some on the writing, or filmmaking questions.
What are you filming/editing on?

Looks pretty cool. What city is that?

Looks cool! :)

What villains are you going to be using?

Right now I'm leaning toward shooting the series in High Definition.

I'm actually using a number of cities for various Gotham locales. The shots above are locations from three different states - all within driving distance. I've always thought I lived in a prime region to do a Batman project. That's actually one of the reasons I decided to go ahead with this.

I'll be using a lot of characters from Batman's Rogues Gallary throughout the series. Joker is in for sure. There's a bit of character development in the second episode that leads into his actual unveiling - in other words, we see the character before he gets his clown-like features. The "Joker," as he is widely recognized, will be making his first appearance in the third episode. The first story arc, following the origin episode, will focus on the Joker and a grim character from the pages of 1985 I like to call Black Mask. Maybe you've heard of him. :cwink:

is this batman in it or is what wb was going to do before smallville?

The show is very much about Batman. The first episode is an origin story, so Batman's role is limited, but for the most part, this is a Batman series. In fact, the original running title was "The Batman."

will you be making your own interpretation of robin?

I have some plans for introducing Dick Grayson at some point - likely during the second season, but he won't be Robin right away.

Will he be dark or will he be like he is in the comics? Or haven't you decided?

how long will each webisode be?

An average of roughly thirty minutes. The first episode will run at a different length than the others.

It won't be campy.

will there be like long story arcs that will lead to a season finale or something like taht?

Yes. Don't expect major villains to be wrapped up in a single thirty-minute episode. All of them will connect and continue the story. The first season will bring you several well-known villains (although I can't tell you for sure how many episodes it will be).

The first webisode is written and ready to go. I'll be casting over the next three months.

What kind of look are you going for in terms of the Dark Knight?

if u need any help coming up with story arcs or writing for any of the episodes i will gladly help with what ever I can... this sounds really really great, and im actually kind of excited to see the direction that u take with the character because Batman is my all time favorite comic book character I read his comics monthly as they come out so just give me a heads up...

Cool stuff, love to see finished ptroduct.

I really hope this is happening, but the blog has only one entry and no links to any footage... which is a shame, because those photos look amazing.
