Just thought of something that *discounts* the Tommy Vercetti theory, though:

In the opening of the trailer, the narrator says, "Why did I move here....? Guess it was because of the weather."

Why the **** would the weather be any different in Los Santos (LA) than it is in Vice City (Miami)....?

Greg Miller from IGN said the way he interpreted that line was that maybe Tommy had to get out of Vice City and wanted to go somewhere similar.

That's how I perceived it as well, if i remember correctly, Tommy caused quite a bit of chaos in Vice City, so I could see him having to relocate

I'm hoping you have two different campaigns with two different characters (Tommy and CJ). One as a high class criminal and the other as a low class criminal.

I don't think the "campaigns" are going to be different....I still believe we're looking at a team, and you get to play 3 individual storylines within that team.

I keep going back to that shot of the jewelry store heist. Those three gunmen disguised as exterminators *are* the same three guys you keep seeing over and over in the rest of the trailer -- the older guy, the black guy, the brown-skinned guy (assuming Latino or Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern). And that very well could be Tommy, CJ and a new guy.

But you have to figure Tommy's story will be different from CJ's.

That means the missions and cut scenes would be different.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how R* could get three different stories in one game to work. I mean, I'm sure they could but I don't think I've ever really seen it done in sandbox style...

Would sections of the map be blocked off for "CJ" and New Guy if you were playing as "Tommy"? That would suck...

R* has stated the game is only in Los Santos.

We are very proud to officially announce that*Grand Theft Auto V*is in full development.

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.

A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.

You know... I'm fine with that. Largest most ambitious GTA game to date is nothing to get upset over...

I can wait until next gen to get a MASSIVE entire state GTA.

Plus as the article states "This Los Santos has grown from San Andreas days", so no big deal I guess.

Yea just going by the trailer there looks to be tons of diff environments.

I don't think they'd have to block off the map at all. The city and encounter areas would still be there and all, but you *might* get different missions, dialogue, cutscenes, etc., depending on which character you were playing at the time. In other words, if you walk into a seedy bar in the ghetto, you'd get a far different response if you walked in as CJ versus walking in as Tommy in a 3-piece suit.

I dunno, I'm just envisioning it as three storylines that start out separately, but eventually all three meet and converge. Maybe CJ is coming up in the world, and Tommy is going down the social ladder, and they wind up forming a partnership as strongarm robbers or whatever.

I'm absolutely cool with this. San Andreas was a very shallow game and I've always said that I'd rather have one really good city than three so-so ones.

Ok yeah, that would make sense. I mean, if someone can do multiple storylines in one giant open world sandbox game and have it work, it's R*.

I hope the storyline is better and the main character more likable. I hated CJ and Niko and their storylines.

The only character iv hated in a GTA is Tommy Vercetti. Really wanted him to take a bullet to the brain, altho Vice City was far and away my favorite GTA

Vercetti and Claude were the only GTA characters I've enjoyed playing as. Even though I really enjoyed SA I wasn't big on it's 90's "gangsta" setting.

Whoa really?

Vercetti was awesome.

Haha yea, I'm deff in the minority. I haven't played that game since it came out tho, maybe if I were to go back through it my opinion would change.

I liked CJ a lot tho because apparntly I'm one of the few that doesn't hate black people here, hah.

But hating Italians is ok? :oldrazz:

The teaser was fairly good. It wasn't likely but I was hoping for a new location or a return to London, but Los Santos would interesting to rediscover especially since Rockstar updated the city. I hope they reveal who the main protagonist will be soon.

I wasn't crazy about Tommy either. Or Claude for that matter. But that might be because I didn't play those games very much.
