Spike's Video Game Awards 2013

Nobody knows how to cover video games anymore. X-Play honestly did it the best with Sessler and Webb together.

I will disagree with that. They made a mockery of it as well. It was best with Gamespot TV back in the early days, or when he was with Kate Botello. I found when G4 took over it turned it into a completely mockery.

I disagree. There are good sites and writers out there, you just have to be willing to wade through a bunch of **** to find them.

What a disgrace. The only thing good in the entire 3 hours was the one minute trailer for the Witcher 3.

Check out Adam Sessler on Revision3 on Youtube if you miss X-Play. The guy is one of the best game journalists around and he's been given a more free platform on the internet.

Joel is actually pretty awesome, Community is where I love him from the most. The real jerk is Geoff, not Joel. Geoff is just one of the worst, has been since he joined Gamespot all those years ago. Simply put he is an egotistical dick wad.

I've met Geoff and he was pretty nice when I met him.

I kinda feel like Geoff is like the Ryan Seacrest of video games. He is pretty much like the go to guy for any kind of big reveal and news.

I saw him once at E3, but meeting him once does not change how he comes off in every professional setting, I don't care for him at all or his ways of doing thing. He does more harm then good, and the VGX continues to show that. He may be a nice guy personally, but professionally he is arrogant among other things.

He was pretty arrogant and dismissive to one journalist once.

Not to mention he's an obvious shill to Microsoft and Sony. I'm not a Nintendo fanboy at all, but notice how he always saves the hard questions for Reggie while plays softball with the former two.

MS or Sony didnt have any reps to ask questions to tho? The questions he asked Regie were solid and fair questions.

Blaming Keighley for the VGX debacle is just stupid. He cant over come the fact that "show" is nothing more than a glorified, 3 hour long ad. I personally can take or leave Keighley, but that show wasn't on him. In fact, compared to the MTV Movie Awards, the show was pretty good, which is EXACTLY what spike is going for, these shows aren't meant to be taken seriously. Viacom just wants the ad revenue.

I mean lets compare the 2, you typically have an over inflated, over hyped, "awards" show where the awards are determined by knuckle headed fans who haven't a f'ing clue as to what they are talking about and throughout the show there are "world premier" reveals and generally one or two horrible music performances.

I don't get why people complain about this show. I mean people don't really whine about the MTV crap awards. They kind of just shrug and say eh, let the tweens have their show. This isn't any different.

that was hands down the worst award show i've seen in awhile
just terrible

But see there lies the problem. With the MTV awards yes, let the Tweens have their movie award show. But hardcore movie goers such as myself can watch things like the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards and get some satisfaction. The problem is the audience the VGX is aiming for.....does not watch nor cares to watch a show about video games, they are aiming to a group of gamers that won't watch the show anyways. It's more of the hardcore gamers it seems that watches the show, and so it's off it's axis of what it should be trying to do as a show. It should be taking itself more seriously since the ones watching it expect more of that.

On top of that, the show it just terrible from many production values as well, at least the MTV Awards have more production value than the VGX has anymore. They need to aim at the audience that actually takes the time to watch it. But heck that may be the last VGX show ever.

I just want an award show some day that I can feel proud to watch. Taken with a serious tone.

There is man. Every year at the DICE summit the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences puts on the Interactive Achievement Awards. Its an awards show completely dedicated to celebrating the developers and publishers of all the games we play throughout the year. For the last couple of years its been streamed live through various channels. They haven't announced the date/time for this years show, but the summit runs from Feb 4-6. Im sure the start time and nominees will be released shortly.

I really feel like this needs to be stickied or something.

The AIAS awards, as well the GDC awards are the actual industry awards like the Oscars.
