Great movies no one knows about

Okay you guys, here's a movie that came out in the last few months that gets a lot of attention at Cannes and the indy circuit, but is pitifully overlooked here... Monsieur Lazhar, a Canadian-French film about a new Algerian teacher taking over a class of kids after one of them walks in on their old, popular teacher killing herself. Riveting.

Sounds like a feel good laugh riot. :oldrazz:

Have none of you uncouth plebians ever seen The Grifter?

Manic
Wild at Heart
River's Edge
The Manitou
Dance of the Dead
The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys

So I have one but you guys but I need your help with the name. I only remember a few details because it's been 20 plus years since I saw the movie. I actually tried to track down the name a year or two ago with no luck. What I remember about the movie is I think it's british and about a british biker gang. And the only other thing I really remember is the whole gang rides their bikes off of a cliff and kills them selves and some how they come back to life. Also for some reason I want to saw the gang had some type of skull on their jackets. I'm not even sure if the movie was made in the 80's or if it's older. I loved this movie when I was little but I don't really remember anybody else in my family liking it.

Not sure if these count

Return to Oz
I loved this movie when it first came out and remember everybody I knew hating. Only to find out about 20 years later that people actually like it. Not if it's well know or not but I don't ever hear anybody talking about it unless it comes up on the internet.

Lone Wolf McQuade
This is a Chuck Norris movie that came out in 1983. This has always been my favorite Chuck Norris movie. This is another movie I rarely see people talk about.

Edit:
I actually just found the title of the first movie I mentioned. It's called Psychomania and it's also titled The Death Wheelers and it was made in 1971.

Best of the Best 2: It can be seen as a standalone movie, no need to watch the first movie before this one, it's better ignoring the first film

Okay, so I watched a couple movies that were suggested here...

Mary and Max was incredible. By far one of the best and most unique animated films I've ever seen. It just so consistently and so repeatedly defied the preconceived notions of generic movie storytelling, it really upped the overall emotional impact and suspense of the entire production.

Assassination of a High School Principle was also really good. Cleverly written with a ton of memorable lines, very well directed, and had some good performances as well (except for Barton *vom*), but I wouldn't at all compare it to Brick. Brick was a 100% legitimate Noir, this is more a teenage coming of age parody that could better be compared to one of the brat pack movies of the 80s.

Blind Fury
The Perfect Weapon
Only the Strong

Here's a couple from my list:

The Black Hole (underrated Walt Disney movie)

Battle Beyond the Stars (it's The Magnificent Seven in space & directed by Roger Corman)

Flash Gordon (campy, but nevertheless a cult classic)

Killer Klowns from Outer Space (title says it all)

Somewhere in Time (one of Christopher Reeves better movies)

Time After Time (directed by Nicholas Meyer)

Superfuzz (story about a average cop who gains superpowers because of nuclear blast. It's an old, HILARIOUS, movie)

Who Killed Teddy Bear?-A woman is constantly getting creepy phone calls from an unknown source.Little does she know it's her co-worker.

The Day of Beast-A dark humored horror film about a priest trying to find the devil.

Boy Wonder-A different take on the idea of a superhero. It's takes realism to another level

Fantastic Planet-An incredible animated movie where aliens treat humans as pets.

Ethan Mao-A young gay kid is kicked out of his house. He later sneaks back into the house to get some stuff back.Chaos ensues.

Speaking of Laloux films, his other two, Time Masters and Gandahar, are masterpieces also.

Blasphemy! Nothing tops Eric Roberts classic overacting in the original.

Only the Strong

I remember this movie, Capoeira fighting, right? I keep telling people that this is the movie where Mazda got their stupid "Zoom, zoom, zoom" song from... people look at me like I'm crazy.

La Haine
The Long Good Friday
Casualties of War
Black Rain
The Hitcher
Aguirre, Wrath of God

Meatballs, Vamp, Secondhand Lions, After Hours, Tapeheads, The Money Pit & Pursuit of Happyness. Admittedly, some of these great movies may not be movies that no one knows about, but I would say some have been forgotten as time moves forward.

Especially the one that made over a 100 million dollars domestically, and netted its lead actor an Oscar nomination. :whatever:

Forgot to mention two gems from one of my favourite directors Jim Jarmusch;

Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai with Forrest Whitaker
Dead Man with Johnny Depp (back when he wasn't just a caricature)
