Alright, sorry if this has already been made, but my search button doesn't work for some reason and looked back 12 pages and didn't see anything. Although I'm almost sure "The Death of Gwen Stacy" will be the one with the most votes, I'm interested in seeing what people might claim to be the second or third best one. Sorry about the disorganization of the poll, I was just thinking off random stories that I've heard good things about.

Death of Gwen Stacy, hands down. Marvel killed their very own Lois Lane, to show the realistic ramifications of of people leading these aggressive and violent lifestyles.

Also one of the saddest stories I've read in my life...

If you want to talk about sad Spidey stories lets talk about Amazing Spider-Man # 400. Too bad it was retconned. They'll retcon awesomeness but not the craptastic moments of all craptastic moments. :cmad:

Nice to see this is a multiple choice poll, as it's hard to choose just one from that list. My choices are:

-Death of Gwen Stacy: For obvious reasons.

-Death of Captain Stacy: It's the flip side of Uncle Ben's death. This time Peter lost a father figure not because he didn't act, but because he did.

-If this be my Destiny: Want to see the inner strength of a true hero?? Look no further than this story.

Death of Gwen Stacy

Kraven's Last Hunt

SSM 189 and the death of Harry Osborn

These issues go beyond just being mere comic books and tell moving and powerful stories.

Can someone explain to me If this be my Destiny?

From that list The Child Within is #3 for me. It shines a lot of light on Harry Osborn's mind, not to mention Peter's.

The Death of Gwen Stacy is #2. We all know why it rocks.

Kraven's Last Hunt is the #1 Spider-Man story of all time. Its just perfect. It ook Kraven to a Z list villian to an A lister, I dont care what anyone says.

Aloha,
This was a three part arc from Amazing #31-33. It involved The Master Planner( who turned out to be Doc Ock). If ever there was a story that emphasized the drive and determination of Peter Parker/Spider-Man it was this arc.

classic-stregnth-pose.jpg
Some of Spider-Man 2 the movie is based upon this arc.
I would also vote for Amazing Spider-MAn #18-It was my first Spidey book and it had a speech by Aunt May about GUMPTION-this was the basis for Aunt Mays speech to Peter in the movie(2) about Heros.
Spidey rules
btw-ALL stories mentioned except for #400 can be read in the library-CLASSICS all of them

I knew it would be for some people. Also, I thought it would be interesting to see people's second or third options as I said in the first post.

i think the first spidey comic was very good, the best origin story IMO

Spider-Man versus the Burglar that killed Uncle Ben (from Amazing Spider-Man #200) is by FAR the BEST Spider-Man story ever told.

Yes, the deaths of Gwen, Norman & Captian Stacy were terrific, as well as the underrated Juggernaut clash, but this issue was when everything came full circle for Peter Parker and he becomes less of a teenager and finally becomes a man when he confronts the man responsible for his being for the last time.

And unfortunately, due to the fact that it's NEVER been reprinted (and that it came out almost 30 years ago), most people have really never read this amazing tale, and it will get minimal votes... specifically from old timers like myself who had the honour & the priviledge to read one of the sweetest gem in comicdome.

:csad:

Multiple choice poll or not, I choose "The Kid Who Collected Spider-Man".

It was an extremely heartfelt story, and I have a sentimental attachment to it, as it was the firs comic I ever owned. My mom bought it for me when I was about 3 years old, and I couldn't even read, yet. I was lost or thrown away somewhere along the way, and I gave up on ever finding it...

...until it was spotlighted in an issue of Wizard when I was 21 years old. I immediately hunted it down, and read it. It was the first comic I ever had, and my mother, who had passed away, clearly wanted me to read it. So I hunted it down, and finally read it. I remembered every panel from my childhood, but I could never read it. Then I read it, and teared up a little....both from the story, and from a small dream realized.

Hands down, my most prized comic, and the one that never leaves my small safe, except for me to read it every once in awhile.

I voted for The Death of Gwen Stacey, and if this be my Destiny for the reason already stated.

I also voted for The Lost Years, being a Ben mark I always found this to be the most accurate protrayal of how a character like that would turn out, whereas in the Usual Spidey books he was, for the most part just like Peter.

I also what to state that the first Sin-Eater arc is one of my favourites, Spidey really does question his place in the world after tangling with this guy and for a minute there you think he's going to let him die, plus Daredevil is in it.

as someone who started collected in continuity from the 90s, the impact of reading revelations without the back history has made a lasting impression on me because it killed 'my gwen stacy' so to speak, Ben reilly while revealing that everything i had been reading was some masterpiece plot of revenge of one man who had come to terms with his dark side to wreak revenge on the death of his son. Also at the time you thought that lil may was also kidnapped by osborn so the return of a major villain, the death of a great hero and the tragic kidnapping of a innocent child wrapped up with everything else plus an excellent fight with the robot master i felt was a truelly fantastic piece.

alot of the other stories on that list have been read by myself out of continuity (from the point i started collecting) and i haven't had that relationship with them (plus collecting in teh uk, the 90s clone saga comics came in bundles since they are reprint years later and distributed in bunches, regularly every month).

saying this, out of continuity, the best story i've read is the best of enemies one but that isn't on the list...

i wonder why people don't like the story of harry's demise:confused

The Other when Spider-Man reveled stingers then ate Morlun's head.

why is Spider-Man: Blue not on the list?

I didn't think about it at the time I made the poll... but you can vote Other and explain why it's your favorite choice. I have yet to read it personally, and it doesn't help that I can't find it at my local book stores.

yeah, i picked "other." it's an amazing story. it's written and drawn by the same guys that did Batman: the Long Halloween, and Dark Victory. they're an amazing team (Loeb and Sale).

it's set back in the 60's right after spider-man beat norman into amnesia. definitely check it out if you ever find it.

I picked other as well... ASM # 400- The Death Of Aunt May.

It's always been my favourite issue...reading it I could just tell that nothing would ever top it. It's powerful, moving, sad, and one of the best damn comics I've ever read. And it also takes place during the Clone Saga- bonus points!

I know it's been retconned, but to me it really doesn't matter. It's like saying if a fantastic book is adapted into a movie and the movie is terrible, then is the book suddenly tainted? Suddenly worse off than it was before the movie came out? I don't think so.

It stands- and I suspect will continue to stand -as the greatest Spiderman story of all time.

I liked Revelations a lot because it took an older story and totally put a soap opera-ish twist on it.

Probably my favorite story is Amazing Spider-Man #136 when Harry Osborn takes over as The Green Goblin. It starts out where Peter is out on a date with Mary Jane and they go back to his apartment. As he puts the key in the lock, his spider-sense goes off and he dives into Mary Jane to the floor as the apartment blows up. I was between 7 and 9 years old when I read this and I hadn't yet read the death of Gwen Stacy at the time. Mary Jane almost died. Spider-Man goes to one of the Green Goblin's old lairs, finds dust on everything but realizes it is fake dust put there recently. He sets up a web hammock and waits. Eventually, the Green Goblin (Harry) shows up in a 2-page spread (awesome), they fight and GG escapes to fight again the next issue.
