Sequels Director David Fincher on his Spider-Man take

What the hell did Fincher mean by "the loss of Mary Jane"?

That....I do not know. I didn't bring it up, because I had no idea what he meant by that. MJ never really died in the comics like Gwen, did she?

Maybe...they break up in the montage? Lol.

MJ "died" during the awful reboot in January 2000.

Maybe....now, just maybe....it takes place after high school and college and MJ died somehow and then he meant Gwen? Who knows what Fincher meant. Besides that little headscratch, his answer sounded like something I would've loved to watch.

It's not ignored, it would have been in the 10 minute opening.
Not ignored as in he won't do it, when he said he can't do a story about "a boy bitten by a spider" he didn't say "radioactive", and that would be harder to do with a straight face

He's talking about the end of their relationship(Peter & MJ). Otherwise he would have said the death of Uncle Ben & MJ, if that was the case. Which also leads me to believe this was a more recent interview discussing the "Reboot", because he was talking about continuing where Sam left off. If this was the 1999 interview, MJ would have not played a role, given he wanted Gwen from the beginning, to kill her.

Just saying....it appear he has not deviated much from his original idea, just tweaking it to fit a possible reboot, at the time.

I love Fincher. LOVE him. And for a take on the reboot, this wouldnt be a bad idea but this was his idea for the 2002 movie and I think it would have been a disaster.

That makes some sense.

Sam Raimi & David Fincher is great director but with different style movie...just wait & see TAS in 2012...

i will say it again guys like Arronofsky,Fincher,Tarantino should not do comic book films

trust me their takes will piss off fans

as they have such artistic visions of what they want that they will throw the source material aside to tell their story

specifically tarantino

They just need comic book characters that suit their style and vision.

darren's ideas for batman and watchmen werent very good tho

and tarantino writes all original films so if anything tarantino would be better off creating his own hero lol

Darren's take on a Batman film would've been absolutely fine, imo.

And plus...the same could've been said for Joss Whedon, although he is now doing the Avengers even though he created a horrible take on a Batman film.

They just need comic book characters that suit their style and vision.

Agree.

Such as Christopher Nolan. His ideas of always wanting to direct a James Bond film is perfect for Batman since he's human and a detective of sorts, plus with all those gadgets he uses, Batman was a perfect comic book character for Mr. Nolan.

And for Darren Aronofsky...if he directed The Wolverine, then it would've been a great film if you ask me. Especially with his relationship with Hugh Jackman since they worked on The Fountain.

Fichner's idea for Spider-Man sounds like it would have been trash

Back in '99, 2000, the premise would've been VERY awful because we needed the origin. But for the reboot, it would've been great.

Although, I would still watch Fincher's take even back then because Fincher will ALWAYS be a better director than Raimi. Plus, we wouldn't have received the god-awful Raimi-directed Spider-Man 3. Talk about trash.

It would have had less action scenes than watchmen, which is hard to do.

How do you know how many action scenes it would've had?

And that reference is silly.
