Seems based on these comments the only reason a sequel isn't going to happen is cause they made poor upfront choices on the first film financially.
Just a chain of poor upfront choices he plainly admits to but doesn't close the door that perhaps the studio would try again by saying it's not getting made "right now".
Did we learn Neal? Make the movie in a better financial climate, leave out the 3-D, we don't care and let's ride.
It was a fun movie with some flaws that could be improved. Bring upfront costs down and get a sequel made already.
Good job producer Neal! I like the vague lack of explanation for shooting in LA, "certain reasons", geez it's pricey to shoot in LA for crying out loud."The movie did almost $250 million and was actually very well liked, but we made the movie for too much money. One, we made it in L.A. for certain reasons, and two, we decided to go to 3D -- that added another $10 million. If I had done it in a tax-rebate state and not done 3D, it would have been considered a huge financial success for the studio. So we're not making a sequel right now" he says.
