Green Lantern Box Office Prediction Thread

It's going to be hard to top Priest as far as flops go.

Way different standards to compare. Priest was a low budget film comparatively with not any great expectations. green lantern is pretty pricey and its been promoted a lot more not to mention what it means to WB and DC for development of superheros aside from batman and superman. This movie has a lot riding on it that makes success pretty tricky.

It doesn't matter what your budget is, a bomb is a bomb. If Super 8 had opened with 10mil I would have screamed bomb and it didn't cost nearly as much to make as Green Lantern.

I just doubt that GL pull in less than 140mil in total domestically and something more or simular worldwide. It can be considered a huge failure but a bomb is a special breed of boxoffice failure.

I really don't think opening weekend will be less then 60. Poopers isn't going to gain anyone but wee little kids

GL is sitting in a good spot the box office has been kind of luke warm, people have been waiting for something to go out and see.

Had Super 8 ( great movie) hit bigger I would have been concearned, but it didn't

I think expectation for GL is higher than that of X-Men: First Class. That was the 5th movie in that series, and it raked in $56 million.

It will pull in at least $60 million opening weekend. It's a tough summer for any movie to have strong legs. With the amount of tentpoles on the way, I don't think anything will hold onto the top spot longer than one weekend.

I just hope the movie is GOOD, but the embargo doesn't re-enforce anything positive.

I don't think this has much of a chance of grossing over 150 million, even with the 3d boost

I'm one of the few freaks who actually thought that FF was a deeply flawed, not good, but charming film.

I think FF is a decent film. Not a great superhero film, but it's leagues better than Catwoman, Daredevil or even the 1994 Corman FF film. Same with the sequel, it was better plot-wise but oh, it had so much wasted potential. Silver Surfer especially.

If GL manages to be better than FF, I will be happy enough. Geoff Johns is happy with the final film, I hope that's a really good sign.

I have a bad feeling the reviews are going to be ugly on this one. Not to say that bad reviews will keep this movie from making $$ this weekend, but they won't help.

To me a bomb means the studio will likely never make it's money back. Speed Racer immediately comes to mind. A film like this that may eventually earn enough to be no real financial loss for the studio is what I'd call more of a disappointment(like TIH was and XMFC may well be).

Things are not looking good for this movie, and there I was thinking it would be the most successful Superhero movie this year.

I still think it'll make around 350-400 million WW. I think 350 million is the minimum it needs to make to get sequels immediately greenlit. Anything less then they'll have to wait for DVD/Blu-Ray sales I imagine.

This film is going to be a huge flop . Which really sucks for future dcu films . They get what they deswerve by hiring the hack Ryan Reynolds

Could you use spell check next time?

Thanks.

an RT score in the 20's plus that first trailer, plus the overall look of this (New Orleans and concept art) might not bode so well for opening weekend.

I just hope the 3D doesn't get shat on as well otherwise...
as far as the films legs, well apparently it's more for kids than adults which is BAD considering what comes out next weekend, and then the weekend after that...

this will be interesting.

Reynolds is a decent actor. And going by reviews he isn't getting criticised. Seems more like the actual writing and characterisation of Hal Jordan is being criticised.

In short, going by the reviews, the movie has bigger problems than Ryan Reynolds' performance.

This may end up being DC's Fantastic Four, which is not a bad thing. Fantastic Four actually had a few redeeming qualities, but was overshadowed by the bad. On the good side, it made enough to get a second shot. The problem was the second time around they swung and missed.

I'll accept a flawed GL, if it gets a sequel. I want this film to be good but I'm lowering my expectations, which is what I did for FF, and when I saw it, I thought it was actually better than I thought it was going to be.

Yes it would be, there's nothing redeeming about Fantastic Four, especially how the hack director butchered and gave people bastardized versions of everyone, especially Dr. Doom.

Speaking of directors, I hope Martin Campbell doesn't get mentioned in the likes of Tim Story.

Hopefully people ignore the critics and make this movie a success.

This film should do well enough to warrant sequels and other DCU films - I'm hoping for a $60m opening - if it doesn't do at least $50m, it's cooked.

What I meant by that was FF got a second shot, which is something alot of critically panned films never get. The worst part about FF, was they didn't even get it right the second time.

Yeah FF was a mess don't get me wrong. It's somewhat of a guilty pleasure, but by no means resembles anything close to a good movie.

I wouldn't worry about Campbell being compared to Story. What's the last movie Tim Story directed? Oh yeah, rise of the Silver Surfer 4 years ago...

DCU/WB have a lot riding on this film, the last thing they need is a track record like Marvel's, which is around a 30% success rate.

Fox Execs might be laughing and trying to call Ryan for a preliminary Deadpool meeting

Starting to see why WB spent that extra fortune in CGI...
wonder if it will pay off.

wow.....well one things for sure, this aint going to be a critical success, these reveiws are scathing.... even from this very site

WTF? Yeah they made some downers, but their success is way higher than 30%. Most of the failures have been in characters no one cares about like Daredevil and Electra.

Spiderman and Ironman pretty much cover every failure in terms of monetary make up....

Batman TDK made enough for DC to have a blunder

but in all honesty

Ghost Rider was better then Jonah Hex

Electra and Catwoman both failed on an equal level.

Those are the 4 worst ones I can think of .... LOL... the shame should be....equal for the modern telling of comic book characters

Okay, it might be around 50% - They've released around 20 films, and 10 of them have been failures, and you can argue that another 3 were bad, but they made some money. DCU needs to be better than that, but it looks like GL is already facing an uphill battle.

What's funny is Jonah Hex still made more domestically than Punisher War Zone and Catwoman almost doubled Elektra's box office.

Bottom line is it doesn't matter if it's DC or Marvel, we need all these films to be successful in order to get more of them, the general audience could care less or doesn't even know the distinction between Marvel and DC.
