GREEN LANTERN: RISE OF THE MANHUNTERS tie-in Game

Arkham Asylum wasn't a movie game therefore a lot more care went into the game...

That's right, and also Batman products sell very well so it the more than likely worth it to them to make it a little fancier since they stand to get a higher rate of return on their investment (as it turns out 'Asylum is now a two game franchise on it's own). Like I said before, I want to think that Double Helix Games is good at getting contracts for licensed properties because the need for a quick return on investment as a part of the over all revenue stream for the property (be it a film or a television series).

I wonder which characters will be playable other then Hal?

No. He gets killed during the title credits. :)

Thanks to Joystiq.com, I found the entire press release for the game I have highlighted some points that I will comment on:

GREEN LANTERN: RISE OF THE MANHUNTERS

Players Continue the Adventures of the Green Lantern Film

On Xbox 360®, PlayStation® 3, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™

Burbank, Calif. – July 23, 2010 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters an action-adventure title that will be available in conjunction with Warner Bros. Pictures' epic superhero feature film Green Lantern scheduled for release Summer 2011. The game will be available for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation® 3 computer entertainment system, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ and delivers an immersive experience for Green Lantern fans that the entire family will enjoy.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is inspired by the feature film, which brings the enduringly popular DC Comics Super Hero to the big screen for the first time and which stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role as Hal Jordan, the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps. In the videogame players will utilize over a dozen constructs and take flight across the deepest parts of the Universe to restore intergalactic order by wielding the ultimate weapon: the Green Lantern power ring.

"Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters gives players the chance to experience the world of the Green Lantern mythology in an interactive way, going beyond the events of the film and comic books," said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "The game is the first to center around DC Comics' Green Lantern franchise and we're excited to give fans the opportunity to experience the power of the ring with engaging gameplay."

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii by Double Helix Games and for Nintendo DS by Griptonite Games.

About the Green Lantern Feature Film

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell. Campbell directs the film from a screenplay by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, story by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim, based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. The film also stars Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Jay O. Sanders, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi, Angela Bassett and Tim Robbins. Green Lantern is produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti. Herbert W. Gains and Andrew Haas serve as executive producers. Geoff Johns and Lucienne Papon are co-producing. The film is scheduled for release in 3D and 2D Summer 2011, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

It sounds like the game could have multi-player functionality as to the point about delivering an imersive experience for Green Lantern fans that "the entire family will enjoy". The press release also reveals that the game will have over a dozen constructs for the player to use. This sounds good and automatically makes it better than playing Green Lantern in "Justice: League Heroes" or "Mortal Combat vs. DC Universe" since they had fewer than 5 or 6. One final coment is that in addition to Double Helix Games, Griptonite Games will be offering a version for the Nintendo DS.

looks ok.. but license-games are per definition atrocious... this really need to have an open world with free roaming and A LOT of possible constructs available to get my money.

Who's that voicing Kilowog? Sounds familiar...

Sounds like Joey Camen. He was the guy who voiced the Thing in the FFROSS video game a few years ago.

He sounds more like Kevin Micheal Richardson. I could be wrong.

Kilowog's VA sounds good. Bet it's the same in the movie.

I SWEAR to GOD, if this movie looks ANYWHERE NEAR as good as this clip does, I will take back EVERYTHING BAD i said about it and eat a big PLATE of crow...

I remember how awesome the Iron Man 2 cutscenes looked. The game itself ended up being some of the worst trash I ever played. Let's see how this turns out.

For some reason I highly doubt this game will be anywhere near as bad as Iron Man 1 or 2.

I think this will turn out to be closer to the level of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was pretty good for a movie game.

IF the movie ends up being fun sci-Fi, heck yeah, you should eat crow! :p

The machines rise, Cobra rises, the Argonauts rise, Apocalypse rises, the Silver Surfer rises, the Imperfects rise, the Dark Knight rises and the manhunters rise.
Everyone rises, apparently. Maybe you get a government fund if you use 'rise' in your project's title.

What the heck happened to 'return', 'revenge' or 'curse'? :)

Scans for whatever...

So pretty much they are all bare-ass naked (except their naughty parts (don't even ask about Larvox)) .

And the suits (besides the standard shading and texture variations for each) also fluctuate from a deep darker-green when they’re powerd down standing arrownd-> To a brighter-green as they’re charging up, in flight and firing, etc...

Also the constructs (at least Sinestro’s do here) don’t so much; - emanate /poor-out/grow directly out of the ring, but more- manifest around the charged up ring-bearer, then coalesce into a “solid” at the ring point, or wherever he wills it.
