Green Lantern: The Animated Series

It's Geoff Johns with the foolish pro-Hal agenda.

Have you even bothered with Geoff Johns comics for the past few years? Hal Jordan is his favorite Lantern, yes, did he also make Green Lantern a brand new brand for DC to make handful of titles and also have the Green Lantern title star heroes such as Sinestro and the brand new Simon Baz?

If anything WB is having an agenda, it's Cyborg.

why is it foolish??

Oops.. I meant to put foolish in quotations. I was being semi sarcastic.

Fact is, I liked what Geoff Johns did for Green Lantern (Hal) in the early days with Secret Origin, etc... but his writing has definitely suffered as the years went by. However the foundation was laid for Green Lantern to become the next Iron Man for WB. It sadly didn't happen... yet I feel Geoff Johns will still continue to push GL down our throats.

Who exactly makes the decision to cancel the Young Justice comic over GL:TAS... when it's clearly the better seller? It seems someone at DC has a hard time letting go (And yes, because of his position in the company I point the finger squarely at Johns).

This is purely my own opinion and outlook... but I feel, despite Johns' eagerness, Green Lantern will soon be heading for guest star status outside of the books once again.

Or maybe the Young Justice book was cancelled because they have a new Teen Titans show coming and they're replacing the show with that? No show, no tie-in.

Yep... and they'll let the lower selling GL:TAS go bi-monthly until Beware The Batman comes out.

I guess that makes sense.

Credit Johns for realizing the potential of the GL universe and expanding it to new heights. Kyle is my favorite GL, but I'll be the first to admit that John's panoramic storytelling has surpassed anything in GL's past.

The animated show is a reflection of this. The fact that the show has been carried by the various Corps of the emotional spectrum and the Guardians is a testament to Johns's vision. Hal's romance with Carol has been a minor storyline and his rivalry with Sinestro has been held off until now. Prior to Johns, there is no way a GL show would have had enough substance to pull that off.

I'm pretty grateful to Johns for expanding the GL mythos like that, and giving the hero newfound popularity. His work with Wally as Flash was also great.

I just wish the current comics would move beyond conflicts withing the light corps and the Guardians. It's almost as if the GL Corps don't have any enemies beyond the other corps.

That's a bit much. There are decades of substance in the GL comics before Johns came along that they could've tapped into. Pretty much anything in DC's cosmic side would be fair game for a GL show.

I haven't read a GL comic in years.
I am enjoying the animated series alot more then YJ.
Like the Red Lanterns and the Blue Lanterns.
Hal was always my favorite GL so I am glad he is the main GL in this series.

Last episode was FUN. Good to see Saint Walker and to hear Ian again.
Manhunters while rather one-note are good villians. Interesting to see Aya try
to change that one Manhunter.
The producer of the series tweeted that Aya got her body into episode.
It would have been nice if there was a brief line in the episode menting this.

Actually an incredibly weak episode given it introduced Sinestro. Best part was him being all ruthless but still it didn't really advance the story much aside from introducing him

-That "trench run" at the beginning was quite awesome. Loved the "missiles" that Sinestro uses.

-Having the lasers from the alien gun be yellow when Sinestro "betrays" them was quite a nice touch, as was him letting that alien suffocate to death (which, to my knowledge, marks the first time someone on this show has outright died). It really foreshadows his eventual betrayal.

-Another burn from Aya, this time to Razer.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the plot of this episode was very reminiscent of John Carpenter's The Thing: an alien lifeform jumping from person to person and "taking them over" (in this case, their mind instead of their body), creating distrust and unrest amongst a group.

This episode introduced Sinestro, but instead of him as a villain he's a Green Lantern. There were hints of his villainy throughout the episode as the alien prisoner was taking over everyone's bodies, except for Aya, whose relationship with Razer is still strained.

While it was nice to introduce Sinestro, it was a self-contained filler episode that had nothing to do with the Manhunters, whom we didn't see in this one. Aya is the one character I liked the most. Good episode.

Red Foreman in the pilot, Razer's wife.

Ah, yes, I forgot about those two.

Though, to be fair, this is the first time we actually saw a character in the show dying onscreen, instead of just seeing the aftermath or being implied.

Hey guys, was this the first time the Green Lantern "code" was mentioned?

I was hoping they would expand Hal's group beyond he, Kilowog, Aya, and Razer with Tomar Re, Steam Lantern, and the Blue Lanterns to deal with the Manhunters.

Eh...not really. As much as I love the GLC, it's not an easy history to form a cohesive retelling.

GL's first decade (Hal, not Alan) was brutally junvenile. It wouldn't even get a second look from TV execs. Emerald Dawn was solid, although the drunk driving angle wouldn't work. The post-Emerald Twilight years wouldn't work with the most famous GL being a villian and a lesser-known one being the hero. Guy's Warrior days aren't really GLC-centric. I really don't see how a pre-Johns GL show would have survived.

I really liked how dark that episode was. It gave the proper tone for Sinestro. He tricks his fellow Corps members and kneels over Noraksis and watches him? it? suffocate. That tells you all need to know about ol' Thaal.

I liked the episode it was great introduction to Sinestro who was a pure badass.

I'm sure all of them along with Guy will be back when it's actually time to fight.

After listening to Ron Perlman as Sinestro again, his take has probably become my favorite. He just brings that commanding presence, the calm and collected demeanor, and can be either friendly or menacing. His voice brings all of the best attributes I've liked from previous VA's into a nice little package.

I really would like to hear more from him later on!

I think it was. But it didn't specify if the code was built into the rings to prevent certain things (like killing) or if it was just a type of oath the Lanterns took before being sworn in.
