Green Lantern Theatrical Trailer

Personally I think Green Lantern will fall in 'the middle. I think Capt America will top it bc it (to me') has the most appeal when it comes to a broad audience. While Thir is getting food reviews, I don't know if it'll big numbers or not. we will see.

Internationally, I don't think Cap will do as well as Thor. Green Lantern definitely has a broader appeal than both of those, IMO.

Isnt Hal the favourite, the only time I can recall people having a hard on for Kyle was when he became Ion for the first time.

Or you know the 20 or so years he was Green Lantern and Hal wasn't.

Kyle's first appearance and the destruction of Hal and the Corps was - 1994
GL Rebirth: aka the Rebirth / Return of Hal and the Corps was – 2004

I thought him and wally came around the same time. My bad, so 10 years, that is still plenty of time to get actually attached to a character.

I have no doubt that there are fans of Kyle Rayner as much as there are fans of Guy and John. I think that this movie has to sell first and become a franchise before it becomes possible to see these characters in subsequent films.

Or you can reboot it with them. 'And by the way John, that guy Sinestro was my mentor before he became evil.'

Wally is as old (i.e. has been around as long) as Hal Jordan. That "is plenty of time to get actually attached to a character", plus his years on JL-JLU.
Kyle is kind of a drop in the bucket compared to that, there’s no denying he has fans though, but to say he’s “everybody's favorite Lantern” is highly debatable. (although I think the guy who said that was being sarcastic)
Plus during those 10 years of Kyle’s run the best selling issues were always the ones that featured Hal Jordan or hints of his return! Hence the eventual GL: Rebirth and where we are today.
John Stewart now from over 6 years in syndication plus some 6 more still in reruns probably has more fans and is more recognizale than Kyle.

Sure, that's the beauty of the Green Lantern franchise. Like Star Trek and Star Wars, you can take it in many directions, feature different characters or even explore new subject matter (since there is 3 billion years of unexplained history within the Green Lantern mythology). It's just really sad that they didn't decide to start this franchise sooner.

If The First Avenger makes alot of money because of the domestic side, it certainly won't be because of the quality of the footage from the movie. I think that people are foolish enough to help it make alot of money because "Hey look, zomg, it's a movie about Captain America. Let's go see it even though it doesn't look good!!!!" The general audience has already proven to us that they can be pretty damn unbelievable from time to time.

Anywho, Green Lantern definitely still has a broader appeal.

If this thing is a success, after Hal they’ll probably do John & Guy next, or have Hal fall and need help and introduce the rest as an Earth posse type team which will be great!
Although they’ll probably need to add an Earth girl too because no way Hollywood is going to go with four Earth men being chosen in a row, and not a single woman on the planet is recognized?
That really is kind of an offensive WTF to half the population of the planet.
It may fly in closed world of comic geekdome, but the first thing the other-half of the real population; girls and women seeing this movie, are going to be asking - when will a girl be chosen on Earth!?
And they’de be right to ask.

I actually heard one rumor Berlanti will be writing Kyle as a girl (graphic artist), since it is also a girl’s name. Still the same character though, the same way Starbuck from Galactica was just written as the same kick ass character but just cast as a girl, and it worked great.

Who knows? This trailer really delivered, I hope it puts some butts in seats, and this franchise really takes off no matter where they go with it.

Hmm...I just had a thought. Does anyone else think that Will Smith would be a solid choice as John Stewart?

I actually think he would be a great choice. He has the charisma and the star power. Him and Reynolds would probably work really well together.

You've got a point there, although Carol Ferris is Star Sapphire. Besides that, there are plenty of women in the Green Lantern corps. I think more people would be pissed off if they didn't have characters like Arisia Raab, Laira, Boodika, or Katma Tui in subsequent films more so than having a female human Green Lantern.

By the way, Donna Parker, Jade, and Cary Wren were all human Green Lanterns over the years.

"more people"?
You know I’m not talking about the tinny ammount of comic book fans who already know the books, I’m talking about the actuall gazillions more people who will be exposed to this concept through the movie, of which roughly half will be woman and girls. They don’t know or care who Arisia, Laira, Boodika or Katma Tui are, and won’t be asking when they’ll show up in the movie, they don’t even know who those characters are.
What they’ll be asking (if this franchise continues) is when will a HUMAN EARTH WOMAN be recognized by the ring.
The first male and even the second male - fine, if by the third a woman is not recognized it’s straight up slap in the face, if by the fourth and it’s still yet another man it’s not only offensive but just comes off ignorant, considering the concept of how the ring works and the population of the planet.
That by the second, a third and then a fourth time they are saying not one Earth woman has the supposed qualities or abilities to be recognized by the ring. People would laugh at the franchise.

And you probably know this but that you can name 3 female human GLs; one who is not even part of the Corps or actually chosen by the ring, and two that are so obscure most comic book fans haven’t even heard of them, since they only appeared in a couple of issues if that, with one retroactively not even existing, and the other only in a hypothetical future, is completely irrelevant and insignificant to the point, unless they're actually in the movie.

Anyway the idea of four Earth Men chosen in a row may fly here and in the small closed world of comic geekdome who have accepted it, but I guarantee it would be laughed at if recreated in the world of the movie.

Your talking about a mainstream that has yet to vote for a female U.S. President nor will accept a co-ed football or baseball team. I hardly doubt that many will ask that question nor even notice and, like I said before, would be more upset if more regognizable characters like the ones I mentioned before were not in subsequent films.

If they turned Kyle into a Girl it would be dumb on all levels. I would just like to see them follow comic book lore and have him be the one to recieve the "last ring" but it seems that they are deviating a great deal from the comic stories but not the comic mythos.

This trailer is alot better than the first, but it's a bit underwhelming after watching the Wonder Con footage.

Because we saw a lot of what's in the trailer in the footage. That's what we get for watching exclusive stuff. :funny:

I wouldn't call seeing the Guradians, seeing Kilowog finally speak and cold cock Hal, nor that fireball scene underwhelming. You must have been looking at the wrong trailer.

You forgot the Sinestro symbol. I've been tough on the trailers footage we've seen so far, but this one definitely got me excited. The effects look better (still not perfect), but overall, this trailer really got me pumped for the movie. I've always wanted this movie to succeed, since it could get DC/Warner Bros. to use characters outside of Batman/Superman. Also, need a sequel with Sinestro as the villian, that's a great story, the greatest Lantern of the them turning on the Corps and attacking it.

I'm willing to bet it will be Thor, then Captain America and then Green Lantern in terms of ticket sales. That's just the feel I get from the average movie goer.

Yep! Seeing the Sinestro Corp symbol was pretty freakin great actually. It means there will be more to this origin movie than meets the eye.
