Fantasy Greta Gerwig to direct two “The Chronicles of Narnia” films for Netflix

I don’t suppose it’s going to be an entirely new contemporary story set in the Narnia world? Was it confirmed she’s actually adapting one of the books specifically?

I dont think it's been specified

Surely she is the White Queen?

I think she could definitely pull off that role.

To me she does look a lot like an older Lucy or maybe Susan, would be interesting if there was more of a framing sequence or some later events were being adapted maybe with some of original characters older now playing role where they didn't in the books.

It sucks but that’s the deal you made with the devil. If they didn’t care when their limited one weekend of Glass Onion made a ton of money, they’re never budging on this unfortunately.

Did she not know she signed a deal with Netflix? They're a digital streamer.

Maybe Netflix is not even planning of giving this a limited release?

Can we get Speak No Evil James McAvoy Mr. Tumnus. :o

It's kind of weird, surprising Disney hasn't tried to reverse-hype their Narnia movies as that they were from the writers of the Captain America films and IW (and that the press didn't comment on the connection, comparison, writers going from one franchise that started OK and failed to one that started OK and skyrocketed).

I think it's because Disney's embarrassed they threw out those movies when they shouldn't have. Bear in mind, the original Narnia movies were made to compete with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter at the time, as a lot of fantasy adaptations were around then. Also, not only were those 2 writers just starting out around then, McAvoy was an up-and-comer himself too (Tilda Swinton and Liam Neeson were the two biggest names in the cast, with Ray Winstone to a small extent in the first one). The first one did really well as counter-programing to King Kong and could've been a great holiday release series going forward (the winter-y look in that one also helped). However, Disney made the bone-headed move to not only release the second movie in May smooshed between Indiana Jones and the surprise monster hit that was Iron Man, but they also barely marketed it for some reason. Why didn't they just save it for December when nothing else major was out that time of the year?

I would make the argument that TLTWATW was Tilda Swinton's breakout Hollywood role. She wasn't really a recognizable name before then, at least not internationally.

Shrek 2 was the year before. She was the Fairy Godmother and was done by the same director.
