Set in a Seattle firehouse, the spinoff, from Rhimes’ Shondaland, will be written by Grey’s executive producer/co-showrunner Stacy McKee. It follows a group of heroic firefighters. From the captain to the newest recruit, the show revolves around these brave men and women as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock.

The lead character is expected to be introduced in an episode of Grey‘s next fall before the series launches in midseason. I hear it’s possible for characters from Grey‘s to cross over to the next series.

“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey.
Just in time before the explosive season finale of Grey's Anatomy this Thursday.

I've hopped back on the Grey's train fairly recently, but this doesn't really excite me just yet. Maybe I'll wait to see some casting, but...

If it's gonnabe cartoonish and ridiculous like Scandal, count me in! I need a good laugh!

Also I cannot wait to see the firefighters sleep with each other :funny:

They did well with Private Practice as a spinoff although it was far removed from Seattle so how they will spin this off being in the same city... are there going to be semi-regular crossovers of doctors and firefighters or is it going to just be loosely connected?

Grey/Practice had occasional crossover and Amelia Shepherd became a series regular after being one on Practice. Then you have the alternate side where Arrow/Flash/Legends crossover with frequency.

The cross over would probably happen once or twice per season. And some characters could easily cross over during an episode that they are making it look like an event. Though does it mean, there would be more fire incidents in Grey's Anatomy for the fire fighters to show up? Don't know.

Anyway, Grey's Anatomy is such an ancient show yet its the the top performing drama of ABC, I wouldn't be surprised if they spin off a cop show after this especially the Tgit is the only strong drama block that ABC has right now and there are cross over events happening in other networks CBS (Ncis), Cw (DC) and NBC (Chicago). So those things while also potentially getting the masses' interest since its a ga spin off is easier to market than an entirely new show.

Me and my wife both still watch Grey's Anatomy. It helps that she's a Nurse and currently studying to be a Nurse Practitioner (basically a doctor who can't do surgery) so she's into the medical mumbo-jumbo.

With that being said, I told her it'd be interesting if Alex somehow lost his license to be a doctor and decides to be a fireman/EMT. An EMT with the knowledge of a surgeon would be fascinating to observe.

I can see a whole "Chicago but in Seattle" scenario if they tried to do another spin off with police as well but I don't think that is where they want to go.

The series is basically a primetime soap opera only it is taped, not live and weekly. There are only what, three regulars left from the original cast of like 10?

Bailey, Grey, Karev and Webber. Everyone else died or left the show.

I think they can make it where there is regular interaction between shows like in the Chicago shows. The EMTs take a patient to Grey Sloan and there's Kepner to greet them. Or there's a major pileup and Hunt is there to assist with other surgeons.

Maybe they try to get Katherine Heigl back as an EMT and reprise her role as Izzy Stevens.

Also, on Grey's you can have the firemen coming in and out of the hospital with patients, like in Chicago Med.

I think it'll be an interesting idea if they follow suit with other networks and have shows in the same continuity. It can kind of add to ideas for plots with more characters to work with and the time to develop them all.
