The failure of Avengers didn’t help but can only hope Spider-Man 2 , Wolverine and other future superhero games are a big success like the Arkham games were to get other publishers interested in the money that can be made.
I think the success of Spider-Man made up for that.
Seeing how people are certainly interested in Wolverine or the Black Panther game...its a good indication.
Also there is a lot of hope etc for a possible second Guardians of the Galaxy game.
Of course that a huge Name like Avengers failed, is not good...Gotham Knights mixed reception also not the best, but i think for the Moment we are safe.
I think a lot more positive vibe could be generated if they would let Smaller Devs do games based on the IPs.
Would show imo better that the Genre fits incredible well into the Industry.
If you are very selective and only give the IP to AAA Developers, thats not good imo.
But i do think the general feeling is a positive towards gaming and comics.
Like look at it, the Arkham Games are well recieved...even Arkham origins seems to gain with every year more positive feedback.
The Lego Comic book games got positive feedback, the Telltale Guardians and Batman, the Spider-Man, The Square Enix Guardians Game is considered incredible well, hurt by bad marketing.
The Injustice games are still in Fighting game tournaments if im informed correctly.
The only game in recent Times that hasnt gotten that much love, is Avengers...and that people would like if the GAAS aspect would have been tackled better.
People are into the game, but it takes way too long for new characters etc to come and often they feel more like reskins than new characters.
When you look at all the Cancelled projects allegedly under DC for example, it feels more like its a problem of the IP owner and not that the industry and fans arent interested.
I keep saying it, instead of Gotham Knights being as it is...they could have done a Batfamily game in the style of the TMNT games.
A sprite based Sidescrolling brawler with batman and his family.
Nothing too expensive, done by a smaller studio while working on a new Batman Franchise or so.
It feels like its all coming down to WB and Disney being the only ones not fully realizing the potential of the Video game sector and comic book characters.
