Guillermo del Toro's The Strain coming to FX - Part 1

At least in the books the Master sets off the nukes worldwide to clog the atmosphere to block the sun worldwide and to kill the other Masters. That makes sense. That would have been a sensible season finale.

But this...having Zach deliberately set off the nuke because Eph killed Kelly...no...this is the height of stupidity.

The showrunners dialed back the stupidity some this season, and I was enjoying the show more because of that. Now I know why they dialed back the stupidity. The showrunners were saving all that stupid for one massive stupid moment concentrated around Zach.

I need an interview explaining this stupid decision.

damn, I'd like someone to do to Zach what Neegan did to Glenn and Abraham last week on The Walking Dead... what a spoiled little ****er...

Lols. :oldrazz:

I doubt Eph can even think straight. His boy just nuked New York out of spite and anger. On the one hand Zach has been through a lot and was suffering from a really ****ed up type of Stockholm syndrome and who knows if Zach even fully comprehended what the bomb would do or the ultimate consequences and Eph will always have some unconditional love for his son. On the other hand Zach nuked New York. I don't envy the head space Eph must be in.

If Zach wasn't the most hated kid on TV before, he certainly is now.

That. Little. ****. 😡

Was the 1st one really a nuke because it was nowhere near as devastating as this one.

I haven't watched the episode yet but judging by the reactions Zack is vying for most hated child in history. Joffre is a tough competitor to beat but I suspect Zack is up to the challenge.

I gave Zach too much credit as I thought he was playing some sort of long con.

I've no real problem anyway with it plot wise as long as they follow through....Zach can't come back from what he's done and Eph has to realise what his kid has done as well.

“I HATE YOU!” Don’t worry Zack the feelings mutual. Just when I thought the writers couldn’t make Zack anymore unlikable they did. I now consider him one of the villains of the show. He is irredeemable. So he decides to nuke NYC b/c his father (out of self defense) killed his strigoi mother. However Kelly has been dead since the moment she was infected, but he’s still in denial over it. I don’t get why he was livid about it b/c there were a couple of times where she attempted to turn him. Yet for some absurd reason he still wanted her around b/c it used to be his mother. After the Season 2 finale I didn’t care whether or not Eph reunited with Zack and that won’t change after this ep. I just wish the show would allow Eph to move on from Zack after this debacle but that won’t happen unfortunately. That punk screwed every human by nuking the city and causing a nuclear winter from it’s aftermath. The Master was even set free b/c of it.:cmad:

Other thans that a pretty good season finale. I'm already looking forward to the final season.

The first nuke went off underground. Nukes and atomic bombs do far more damage when they detonate above ground. The bombs dropped on Japan detonated in the air so that the shockwave and heat blast would be less impeded by structures.

The statue of liberty nuke being in the statue and in the harbour allowed the shockwave and heat blast to travel unimpeded before it struck the city.

Speaking of, the group would not have survived that explosion. :funny: The initial detonation would have seared their eyeballs and the shockwave and heatblast would have hit them before they even realized what had happened. The air around them would have superheated immediately. No concrete wall would have saved them. They would have turned to ash.

Im not sure that there will be a nuclear winter in the show. There is a nuclear winter in the books because the Master overloads the reactors in nuclear power plants all over the world. It was the equivalent of a global nuclear war.

But in the show we only see a single nuke in NYC and the Master and Eich dont seem to indicate that they have other nukes or plans to nuke any other places. A single nuke going off in NYC wont cause nuclear winter. So NYC will be ****ed like Japan was in the 40s but it wouldnt xause nuclear winter.

But who knows maybe they did nuke the world and the show didnt have the budget to show it and we will be told it happened in the season premiere.

I have never liked Zack. He always came across as a self centred brat to me.

I thought the Master character lost something when his essence was transferred from the giant, jacked Sardu into the normal-sized Bolivar. I thought I was going to like the character even less when the master suddenly became an older-looking man. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Jonathan Hyde turned up the creepy factor several notches. The effects certainly helped, but the Master was instantly discernible in contrast to Palmer. That was very well done.

The next time Eph sees that kid, I hope he beats the life out of him.

Just when I thought my opinion of him couldn't get any lower, that little c*** digs another 30 feet.

Yep. I love how it happens in the book. It was Red Wedding levels for me when I read it. It just showed how thouroughly outclassed the heroes where, this stuff was centuries in planning.

This on the other hand made my jaw drop from stupidity. I'm still laughing about it a day later.

Watched the episode yesterday and Zack managed to one up Joffre against all odds.

in the space of one week, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Neegan on the Walking Dead and the kid who plays Zach have become the two most hated characters on tv right now... each one is a thoroughly reprehensible prick in their own way...

Yeah, but at least JDM/Negan has charisma and is entertaining in a dark way.

Zack and the actor playing him (fine, blame the writing), are just annoying in every scene, even if he's just doing nothing.
