Well, thank god that's over. This final season was something of a bust.

Yes it was. The only thing the show never did sadly was explain the Master's origin [BLACKOUT]like with the Angels and stuff or explain how and where the Red Worm first came into being.[/BLACKOUT]

I get that this is a more grounded take but some plot holes should have been filled. Liked the happy ending though.

That's one of the reasons why this season was a letdown to me. Never explaining where the Master came from but just appeared from nowhere. And I don't understand this grounded approach. It's a show about vampires! If anything, God and angels will make it seem more believable. But this season was just a disappointment, especially the finale. Just wasted opportunity.

That was the last episode, it's done.

Zack managed to actually bring a tear to my eye there. Fair play to him. The kid did well there with his last line.

Gruesome ending for Quinlan, was hoping he'd just be wiped out by the bomb but then that would have robbed us of Zack and Eph taking centre stage in winning the day in the end through their redemption. They seemed to depower Quinlan this season, I recall him giving the Master a bigger run for his money last season.

Other than that, a pleasantly surprising uplifting ending. Was expecting every one to be wiped by the bomb in a protracted scramble of an ending.

Made the whole Lumen plotline somewhat redundant

Man, that last episode sucked. The Master made clear to Quinlan he'd never get close to that bomb, but at the first sign of Eph The Master himself goes running headfirst into it. It felt like they just needed to end the show so they forced the conclusion. I'm glad they kept the book ending (or close enough to) for Eph and Zack, but overall I was disappointed. This last season was really lackluster.

I guessed they didn't want to delve into the Fantasy aspect of it all.

Well Eph in his last moments made sure to get close to the bomb along with Zack.

I was pretty underwhelmed with series finale but the rest of the season was one of its best.

Finally watched the finale and...it didn't really do anything for me. It felt like just your usual episode for the most part. Nothing about it was really that special.

Somehow Zach finally grew some brains, why and how idk.

The first season was sooo good and I am fine with the series as a whole but I don't see myself ever yearning to revisit it.

Did they ever explain why the Master chose Zach? I never understood why he was so special. And the other elders..........how did they come to be? Maybe I missed an episode but what separates them from the Master?

He was part of a resistance group the Master was wary of.

I am just finishing the episode now. Zach was chosen because the Master thought Zach had some kind of ruthless potential (they made several references to Zach being groomed for the role of taking the master when he grew up) although I also think it was a bonus he was a shield against Eph. Which of course ended up not helping in the end.

Zach managed a measure of redemption [BLACKOUT]nuking himself but he was also the cause of this whole nightmare in the first place when he set off the first nuke[/BLACKOUT].

This was a real surprise as a series finale. I was expecting something more. That last five minutes was a nice touch but the rest of the episode just left me thinking there was more to come.

I was expecting all the main characters to come together and lead a big resistance but that didnt happen. In fact most of them didnt do anything.

While I hated that it played out like that. I did like the last line that little turd delivered.

Zack was just meant to be his "perfect" host, he was pretty much chosen to stick it to Eph.

In the books the vampire origin pretty much went like this:

When God sent two angels to test and ultimately destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, in a confrontation with some humans one of the angels gets a taste of human blood, and gets intoxicated by it and begins ripping out throats and drinking the blood. For that act, the angel was ripped apart with it's various limbs scattered around the world. The Master was the youngest of the vampires, because his piece sent underwater and only when an island eventually rose from the spot were the worms able to find a host.

You can assume they didn't film any of that because budget, the closest the show came to acknowledging the origin was some drawings in the Lumen depicting angels.

Finally caught up with this, I did enjoy the the final season but really the finale was a bit of a damp squib. It was a much more epic ending in the books, the final battle was a really tense read and right up until the end you didn’t know who was going to live or die. Quinlan especially gave a much better account of himself against the Master in the books, only being bettered by a cheap shot. Here he barely gave him a fight, and seemed depowered throughout the whole season compared to the books and previous seasons.

I have liked the show but they missed out so much they could have easily got another season out of this, possibly even two. They stuck so close to the book in the first season, and it was really good, but once they started to deviate the show became poorer for it nd never fully recovered.

Hopefully one day we can get a live action adaptation a bit closer to the books.

the first season was pretty good, but they done ruined it along the way. Massively dropping the ball. Picking the worst kid actor ever to replace the first Zack.
