When Herbie showed up in the cartoon and comics, I found him really annoying - I think largely because of the huge number of “cute robots” that were everywhere at the time.

But now, after surviving those dark times, I think he could fit perfectly with the retro-nostalgia theme and, if done right, could be a highlight of the film.

I loved H.E.R.B.I.E., he was an integral part of the team who’s worked very well. He had that lovable personality that was a combination of R2-D2 and Johnny 5. It also helped that he was a practical animatronic that could interact with the actors.
