Halo Killers

Battlefield 3 seems to be the most realistiic FPS for now. Will it be able to surpass Call of Duty's popularity? I don't know.

It won't surpass Cod's popularity, if its good than it'll be the huge stepping stone that the Battlefield series needs to overtake Cod but Cod is just too big right now.

Does it even matter? Let's assume for a moment that Battlefield does outsell Call of Duty this year (which it won't) and let's assume that trend continues. In two or three years everyone will be *****ing and complaining about how "bad" Battlefield is and how it's "overrated" and then they'll move on to something else and the cycle will continue. Is that what Battlefield fans want?

It won't oustell CoD?
Battlefield is using an engie that will definitelly make it next big step to FPS realistically.

The only way Battlefield will outsell Call of Duty this year is if Activision doesn't put one out.

But if Battlefield is more realistic gamers will get more exited for more battlefield games than for more call of duty games.
So, as far as i know in the FPS genre the most influencable FPS games were:
1st Wolfenstein 3D
DOOM was the wolfenstein 3D killer
Quake was the DOOM killer
DUKE NUKEM 3D was kind of a DOOM killer parody
Half-Life was the definite Quake killer
Halo was the Half-Life killer
Return to castle wolfenstein was the predecessor to what would be the Halo killer
The entire Call of Duty together became the Halo killer
Crysis and others are almost becoming more Halo killers
Battlefield 3 is ready to kill call of duty
The entire Wolfenstein franshise died

Not even. Its because of Halo that online gaming and console based fps games are so popular. It was a landmark title for the industry

That still doesn't mean the series isn't overrated, hell that doesn't even mean series is good. All that means is the series was popular. The backstreet boys were popular once... I wouldn't call that quality.

Half-Life is and always has been a better game than Halo: Combat Evolved.

Of course it is, but Halo still has its place in FPS history and the multiplayer is a lot of fun.

It would be great if games attempted to rip that off than the Calls Of Dutys,

No, because then people would ***** and moan about that. As I said a few posts up, if Battlefield replaced Call of Duty, guess what? In a couple of years people would complain about it. They would act like it's the worst thing to ever happen to gaming. People just enjoy whining about whatever is popular at the moment. It doesn't matter what "it" is.

COD killed Halo, now the world is looking for their COD killer.

What about that Homefront game? It looks interesting.

Halo Reach received a lot of good reviews by the critics but not by the fans, i don't think Halo 5 will be able to top other newer franshises, call of duty began as a game of the year winner but not many knew it, i think that it was near CoD: Modern Warfare and Worlds at War that people really noticed it.

This fan loved Halo Reach as much as I loved Halo 3(which, at that time, I thought was the best game of the franchise). Even though a new Halo game would be made by 343 now, I think it could become a great game and could start new mythology for a new trilogy, imo.

Halo must seriously be THE most overrated franchise in history imo.

There are many more games on the list above Halo, imo.

As long as the game remains what made it great, who cares. I want a bigger community for Battlefield. I dont think EA is about to make BF a CoD clone. Saying things like "You dont beat CoD by being CoD, you beat CoD by being better" leads me to think that.

But i see what you are getting at. People always b***h about whats popular. Its cool to hate mainstream.

Seems like CoD is still the popular game, but many of my friend already told me that Battlefield 3 was superior, the big problem with Call of Duty is that they're using the same engine since CoD 4, and we're already at CoD 8!

And because they are very well made. They wouldn't keep selling if they were **** games year after year.

Single player it is not. Not to say that Call Of Duty is good either... but Battlefield 3's single player is the very definition of coke can production line. Battlefield 3 is a team shooter with Call Of Duty primarily a death match game. The main thing they have in common is that you play to unlocke stuff. This hurts Battlefield 3 as it becomes convoluted and more interested in rewarding you for getting stuff than acting as a team game. A better comparison would probably be Team Fortress 2, which (imo) is a far, far superior game. Far superior. Very superior. By alot.

No, it's more because of the name, not the quality. Not saying they are poorly developed titles but at this point they sell because "it's the next Call of Duty"

Sure, but if "the last Call of Duty" was terrible, it would have an effect. The fact that the games are of high quality year in year out obviously plays a role in how well they sell.

Homefront sold 2.6 million copies. Medal Of Honor sold 2 million units in two weeks.
These games basically look and sell themselfs as Call Of Duty. And were generally considered average to poor in quility.

Medal of Honor is not of bad quality, it has even better reviews than Moder Warfare 3 :o

The marketing for Medal Of Honor was so dumb, whats sad is that it probably worked.
A bunch of men with blanked out Andy Mcnab faces and voice synthesizers because the game is just so realistic and authentic that it actually needs advised by real militery. What a gimmick.

Still, Crytek walking around with "I heart new york" T-shirts well showing a trailer replicating the 911 aftermath takes the cake.

I don't think we'll see a COD killer until next-gen. I have a feeling it might be a Third Person Shooter.

I'm not even sure if we'll see one then, cuz lord knows there will be more of those games next gen.

I think the next big thing is going to come from from either Bungie or Respawn. Or maybe Blizzard, depending on what Titan ends up being and what platforms it will be available on.

Yeah, all that needs to happen is for Bungie or Respawn to make the next evolution in FPS games, which I'm confident at least one of them will do.

Whatever Respawn makes probably has the best chance of luring the COD fans to something new, they just have to drill "remember the COD game that got you all into COD? Yeah well we made that **** and look at this new thing we did" into their heads.
